NYFW Fall 2015: Zimmermann's Throwback to the 70's
Nicky Zimmerann debuted her namesake Fall 2015 collection on a bitterly cold Friday afternoon at the ArtBeam in Chelsea. The room was light and bright (as well as warm), which set up to be the perfect backdrop to her collection's heavy influenced 1970's silhouettes and 60's interior design colors. Though this was a fall collection there was no shortage of pastel colors and flowing gowns.

To no ones surprise Mara Hoffman is one of my favorite designers. I fully respect designers that have a certain aesthetic or artistic view who don't sway from their artistry no matter what the trends say. Hoffman knows how to take her boho aesthetic and make it into a ultra modern feminine look. I love that this season she took a step back from her vibrant tribal prints and made neutral toned boho wear with pops of prints. One of my favorite looks was the black, white, and orange print midi skirt with matching top. There was a blue jumper paired with a scarf wrapped over head that totally caught my eye. Not only did I feel like I could wear the jumper, but I enjoyed the overall styling of the look...which can be said for a lot of the looks. Of course, I love the big braids messily placed on the crown of their head.

So yes I've worn this combo before (seen here) but I did warn you in that post that I would be rocking the look again. This time I opted for a slouchy beanie, in fear that I would loose my red hat in the wind, and my fuzzy red Schultz booties. Well sort of for the Schultz booties, they aren't made for running around New York City so my Lodinatt bag came in handy to tote them around in while I wore my oxfords running from show to show down in Chelsea.

NYFW Fall 2015: Lacoste Rene Did It First

In the late 1920s a friend of Rene Lacoste, Robert George, embroidered a crocodile on the tennis champion's blazer. Just a couple of years later this emblem would become the symbol of the brand, LACOSTE. Fall 2015 pays homage to the LACOSTE's tennis heritage from the clothes to the actual runway. Models donned urban contemporary sportswear with a nod to The Royal Tenebaums down a tennis court themed walkway.
I love that Lacoste took a twist to their own heritage by playing with contrasting details like a sweat suit with an oversized menswear coat. Felipe Oliveria Baptista even took a new spin on the traditional Lacoste polo shirt by doing a graphic polo that reads Rene Did It First, but you can still find the crocodile symbol simply placed on the collar. One of my favorite pieces from this collection was the grey and blue stripped tennis dress that was asymmetrically cut, which gave a beautiful fluid flow. Sportswear has never been in like it is now and Lacoste is on top of it's game. This collection has a piece for different styles of woman: the sporty woman, the super feminine lady, and the tomboy...or if you're like all me and cross all spectrums.

NYFW Fall 2015: Charles Youssef's Tectonic

On Wednesday afternoon, I kicked off Fashion Week a bit early with a presentation of Charles Youssef's Fall 2015 collection. This is his third collection after launching his Resort 2015 line. Youssef was inspired this season by the artist David Batchelor's "Magic Hour" light installation and architect Tadao Ando's concrete staircase. These inspirations were seen throughout the collection through his use of zigzag appliques, smooth matte silk, sheer and cracks inspired by the earth's plate tectonics.
This collection was uniquely beautiful. I love the structure shoulders of his wool cashmere blend origami boucle top and black origami dress shirt. These strong structures remind me of a bold strong New York woman. The black sheer silk organza wrap dress and wool crepe dress with multi-layer silk organza layers helped give the collection a softer feminine feel. I could see taste makers (or myself) rocking the black sheer dress with wide brim hats and cowboy boots at concert halls and downtown bars.
