Inspirational Monday: The Grown Up Skort

skort

I haven't really gave to much thought about skorts. Then again when I think of the skort I think of my childhood ones like the variety of jean and khaki ones that I owned. Being an adult now I never thought I would see one that I liked or even wear one. Well I was ooo soooo wrong. After hitting the Tibi sample sale a few months back my view on the skort had ever been changed. How could you not love a mint green skirt that cut open in the front to reveal hidden shorts. Hanging on the rack I knew it had to be mine. Perfect for work for the summer and something that can be taken into winter - functional and at a discount of the price I just couldn't pass it up.

Shirt: Old Navy (old)
Skort: Tibi (sample sale)

Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Bag: c/o R&Em

Sunglasses: local Brooklyn Boutique

Scarf: Alexander McQueen (ebay)

I love that Tibi took something full of youth and made it sophisticated and still yet playful. It is a piece that can easily be worn to work without having it being inapporiate. I love that Tibi always has the everyday woman but someone who still likes to look young but chic at the same time.

What do you think of the grown up skort? Would you wear it?

Urban Outfitters' BDG Fall 2012 Preview

If you have been a long time reader of this blog then it should come to no surprise that I'm a huge fan of Urban Outfitters. I was so excited and honored to have gotten invited the BDG Fall 2012 Preview. I remember when I got my first pair of BDG jeans and how I LIVED in them. I wore them so much that they started to tear at the knee (not that I cared) but it was when I put on my college weight and grew some hips is when I had to toss them. It was like losing a close friend because really there is nothing like a good worn in pair of jeans. That's why I love BDG jeans so much, they are fitted but yet comfortable. I hate starchy jeans and BDG are really anything but. Their texture is soft and light with a comfortable fit. This fall they are bringing out the show stopper denim prints: floral, horse, leopard, galaxy, feather, and more. Fun is Urban Outfitters game and they aren't shying away from it this coming season. I fell in love with the tie-dye effect denim along with the Isabel Marant look alikes, find the real deal here.

It wouldn't be an Urban Outfitter event without some cool girls doing cool things. They had three tables set up for DIYs: studding, lace bleaching effect, and fabric painting. Of course each guest got a pair of jeans to DIY (if we wanted too). I was really in awe of the lace bleaching effect. Many of the girls who picked out the red cigeratte jeans decided to try this. All they did was take some lace fabric, laid it over the jeans and sprayed a mixture of bleach and water over it. This created a cool bleach lace look.

Of course since I don't have the most comfortable or decent pair of floral jeans (my Delia*s jeans aren't cutting it-- my 25 year old body does not fit into teen jeans) I decided to go with the floral BDG. I'm so in love with the bold dark print. I also decided not to DIY them...I might have to try the bleaching effect on another pair of old jeans though.

What do you think of the BDG Fall 2012 Preview? Will you be buying any printed jeans this fall?

Weekend Wear: Wedding Shower

Dress: c/o Sugarlips
Bag: c/o Remi & Emmy
Shoes: H&M
Sunglasses: local Brooklyn boutique
Necklace: gifted
Heart Charm: c/o Juicy Couture

photos taken by Brian Cavanaugh
My Sugarlips dress could not have come at a better time! I was so excited to get this dress in time for my best friend from high school's bridal shower. This dress was the perfect little number to wear to her tea themed bridal shower. It's dressy but not over the top. It's something that you throw on for a special occasion and something that you ca wear on a beautiful summer day. Of course it's in my favorite cut, the high low cut. The other thing I love about this dress is the sweet heart neckline and that the bustier top feels like a quilted blanket. It's not heavy but really soft, something that you would want to snuggle into. I can definitely see this dress being worn with a jean jacket or denim vest to keep it casual.

Do you have any go to dresses?

DailyBuzz Style 9x9 Summer Hairstyle: The Messy Ponytail

I was chosen for this months DailyBuzz Style 9x9 Challenge and it's all about our favorite summer hairstyle! For me when it comes to hair and summer I'm low maintenance. I'm usually throw it up in a messy top knot on the go type of gal. Especially when it's those really hot sticky days, but lately I found myself playing around with my hair and trying different hairstyles. {GASP} Even waking up early to do my hair. This is probably because this is the first time in a long time that I had long hair. I really have fallen for the messy ponytail look since I'm a fan of polished looks with a messy finish. The messy ponytail is a easy to-do ponytail that works for us ladies that have some fringe.

What You Need:
- 1 inch curling
- brush
- small tooth comb
- hair tie
- thermal spray
- hairspray

Hair Products Used:
-Arrojo Set & Style SprayArrojo Thermal Protector, and Garnier Fructis Full Control Anti-Humidity Aersol Hair Spray

Steps:
1. Spray a thermal protector spray to keep your hair from frying, plus if you have colored hair this will help protect your color. Spray some on the palms of your hand and smooth it in the tips of your hair. Brush it in. Then repeat step using a style spray like Arrojo Set & Style Spray. This will help hold your curls into place and create texture for your hair.
2. Start curling your hair working all the way around your head. Don't worry about it being perfect since this is for a messy look the messier your curls are the better.
3. Once you did all your curls around your head spray just a little bit of hairspray to hold in the texture of the curls.
4. Break curls apart by running your fingers through your hair.
5. Brush the top of your hair into a pony hair. For girls without bangs it's easier if toss your head over and pull your hair into a pony tails.
6. Secure your look tightly and pull your hair starting at the front.
7. To create volume in your ponytail tease the back of your ponytail. Lift the ponytail up and use a  small teeth combo brushing down the back of the ponytail.
8. Go back over your ponytail with your curling iron to create more texture.
9. To keep the texture and volume in your hair spray hairspray once more.

This look works well with a dressy polished look since it gives it a summer twist to it. It can amp up your look and also play it down. It's a great hairstyle that can take you from work to after hours.

I've been craving a galaxy print...anything. So when sheinside.com contacted me I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to get my hands on a galaxy print top. I love that the back of this top has a detail that flows with the ruffle of the Urban Outfitters skirt. It's just one of those shirts that can be dressed up or dressed down. Worn to work and taken out for cocktails.

What do you think of the galaxy print trend?

DIY: Chain Link Necklace

This is the easiest DIY ever -- even the DIY challenged can pull this one off. The hardest part is probably trying the find the chain link necklace. I always go to Etsy to get my little DIY crafts. I got both my chain links from the Etsy store CrushCrush. That's all you need-- 2 chain links!

Steps:
1. Take the ends of your chains and have both of the open pieces out.
2. Slip the open slots into each other.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on opposite ends.
4. TA-DA! You have a chain link necklace!

I got this idea after seeing Liz of Late Afternoon post photos of her wearing Adibur Kibur's Silver and Neon Chain Link Necklace (which is now sold out on Shopbop).

Inspirational Monday: Sporty Chic

Sporty Board

River Island mesh top, $15 / T by Alexander Wang neon top, $155 / Warehouse, $19 / Platform high heels / Zara handbag / Marc by Marc Jacobs chain jewelry / Forever 21 spike jewelry / Givenchy peaked hat / Yves Saint Laurent lip stick

I've always been a bit of a tom boy. Then again I didn't have much of a choice...I literally grew up on football and baseball. The day I was born my dad had me with him watching the Notre Dame Football game and then the day they brought me home my dad apparently laid me down next to him and we watched the NY Giants. Yes, I am 100% a daddy's girl. I always was friends with the boys and played sports. Much hasn't changed. I like hangout with guys even though I now rather wear heels then sneakers. Just because I might have traded in my shoes it doesn't mean I traded in my love for sports. I watch football like it's a religion and love going to baseball games. I also am a fan of dressing in sports team shirts or going a little sporty with my look. This is probably why I'm a huge fan of Alexander Wang. Love the femininity with the twist of tom boy. This is also why I'm probably a huge fan of this summer's trend of "sports wear" that is fashionable. Mesh high heel shoes, Givenchy's Pre-Spring 2012, and T by Alexander Wang's neon hoodie are a couple of things that come to mind when I think Sporty Chic.

Between my new Ann Taylor knit vest (which I bought on sale) and my Urban Expressions bag from baghaus.com I couldn't help resist putting together a sporty chic look myself.
