Outfit Post: First Day Jitters

No matter how old you are whether it's starting a new job or starting school...there are the first day jitters. I started a new job mid this year and now here I am about to start my first day of graduate school...and it's the same first day jitters...as if I was entering kindergarten all over again.

Lets get personal, I will be going back to graduate school at The New School (home of Parsons) to obtain my Masters in Media Management. While attending I still will be working full time. I think the scariest part for me isn't so much school itself as much as it is how I will get everything done...and still have a life. Don't fear I plan on continuing FNYG, but please bare with me. I'm excited for this new chapter. My 20s were probably the hardest years (I can say that now as I approach my 29th birthday). I've quickly learned that being in your 20s is all about self discovery. This is the first time in 17 years you'll not be in school. And I'm sure if you're like me, you thought you'd have everything figured out by the time you were in your mid-20s. Wrong. You are VERY lucky if  you know what you want to do, are doing what you want to do, and are happy doing what you are doing. As for me, I didn't know what I wanted to do, I wasn't doing what I wanted to do (whatever that was), and I wasn't happy doing what I was to doing. So I had to DO something about it...that's how FNYG got started. Through blogging I discovered my love for all things social media...unlike many of my younger counterparts social media management wasn't taught in school (Facebook hit my college when I was a junior). So here I am embarking on the next chapter of my life...and I honestly couldn't be more happy and excited. It's the first time in a long time where I feel like everything is starting to come together.

Here's the takeaway...you can't sit around waiting for things to happen...because they won't. Things will not fall into place, jobs won't land on your lap, you need to go out and get what you want. That can mean anything from starting your own online business to going back to school to finding an internship. When something isn't working you need to figure out what it is and fix it. Life isn't going to wait around for you...and it goes by so fast. So do what you need to do in order to reach your goals.

Well...not that kind of shades of grey...Have you ever have days that you wake up and don't have any idea what to wear? This was one of those days. I woke up and was like "Shit...what to wear?" When in a morning style rut I tend to go for easy throw on looks. No matter what the temperature is outside, I have to also take in account the temperature inside my office. So shorts, a long sleeve shirt, and some sort of extra layer works best.

Do you wear layers in your office?

This weekend my husband and I celebrated his 30th birthday by taking a day trip up to Beacon, New York. He wanted to check out Dia: Beacon and since we were in this beautiful Hudson Valley town we took advantage and explored a bit. We stopped into a little local cafe, Homespun Foods, for lunch, walked Main St. and stopped into the local ice cream shop Beacon Creamery before checking out some modern art at Dia. We are already making plans to come back next summer to go kayaking at Scenic Hudson's Long Dock Park. Beacon was such a beautiful escape from the city. Perfect for a daycation as it's only 2 1/2 hours away from the city and an easy ride on the Metro North. This little town is something that I can see us settling into to start a family. I know a city girl moving out of the city for a more quiet life...crazy. But it's something we have been discussing as we think and save to buy a house. Beacon, you definitely made the list.

What did you do this weekend?

Style Guide: The Adult Crop Top

 photo Adult Crop-2_zpswf5gmvjm.png

I hate when people say that crop tops are for certain ages only. Anyone under 20 only, anyone under 30 only, blahblahblah....Sure as an adult you should wear crop tops styled appropriately and tastefully. The "Adult Crop Top" to me means longer crop tops (like ones pictures above) that pair easily with high waist pants and skirts. These crop tops are perfect for date night or can be worn to work with the correct dressing. Pair with high waist pants, flats, and simple earrings for a day time look, throw on a red lip and heels for a evening out.

Shirt: Badgley Mischka | Jeans: Carmar via LF Store | Shoes: Jessica Simpson via DSW | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Sunglasses: Feathers Boutique | Earrings: Kate Spade

I found this Badgley Mischka crop top at their sample sale. To be honest I was hesitant on buying this top, I actually made a second stop at the end of the sale to pick it up with further reductions. I'm actually quite pleased that I went back to buy it. I wasn't sure how seamless this would transition in my wardrobe but thankfully I have a thing for high waist clothing. This shirt is so much fun to dress up or down. I've worn it once so far, and got tons of compliments.

Do you think there is an age restriction on crop tops?

Inspirational Monday: Fall Style

 photo Fall 15 Inspo_zpswtt8vfep.png
1. | 2. | 3. | 4.

This Fall it's all about the earth tone colors (marsala, oak buff, desert sage...see all of the fall colors here). It seems that every fall piece I have been eyeing is either in marsala or in oak buff and in a 70s style; pinafore dresses, wide leg pants, wide brim hats...etc. Because I'm not one to wait for anything...I love to start to transition into the new season. With Summer to Fall you need to be careful of picking pieces that aren't heavy, like suede, leather, and chunky knits. These pieces to me look silly when it's 80 degrees out. Luckily, lace is still around for the fall and it's perfect piece to play around with for the summer and fall, like this lace dress from Zara.

Shirt: T by Alexander Wang | Pants: Badgley Mischk (sample sale) | Bag: Coach | Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell
Necklace: Topshop | Sunglasses: Feathers Boutique

I recently picked up these pants from Badgley Mischka Sample Sale. The best part about these pants besides them easily falling into trend again, is that they were $25! Want to know why they were $25? Because the tag was ripped! As soon as I tried them on I knew they were coming home with me. They fit to perfectly to pass up...for $25!

These pants are going to be so much fun for me to play around with. I can see me dressing them up with a crop top or dressing them down this fall with a graphic sweater. Plus, these pants just get me in the mood for fall.

Are you guys ready for the fall?

PS would anyone be interested in a sample sale tutorial? like how to shop/survive a sample sale?

Fall Back into School in Style

 photo back to school_zpsu49zenox.png
Dress: Zara | Shoes: ASOS | Backpack: Rebecca Minkoff | Notebook: PaperSource | Pens: Ban.do | Skirt: H&M

Can you believe that summer is already coming to a close? Every summer I have high hopes of making it to the beach every weekend and taking advantage of the warm weather before it snows again. As much as I love summer, I too love Fall. Fall for me is about cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice lattes. This Fall I'll be heading back to school, so not only will I need clothes that are comfortable to wear all day (work by day school by night), but I'll need new stationary. I love all the quarky and girly stationary from shops like Ban.do (i.e the Sweet Talk Pen Set) and PaperSource (i.e. Notes Notebook). Now I have reason to go to PaperSource and spend money on notebooks, papers and pens....this means serious trouble for my bank account.

What's on your back to school checklist?

Early this summer Band of Outsiders (ps I always want to call this brand Band of Horses, anyone else know the band??) had a little sample sale in what was their SoHo space...the sale was filled of these skirts. I couldn't resist not buying it. Polka dots, gold flakes, and flowy? What is there not to love about this skirt?! Shortly after buying this skirt their flagship store was closed and the label pretty much dissolved (read here), which sadly meant their fall collection wouldn't go into production (check it out here if you haven't yet). Although designer Scott Sternberg will no longer be part of the company, there's still hope for the brand. According to NYMag, a Beligan company won the auction for Band of Outsiders. Who knows what lies for their faith...but I hope just maybe Scott's designs will hit the selves.

There been a lot of brands and companies closing up shop. Any of whom you'll miss?

Backing Up My Memories with Google Photos

 photo googlephotos10_zpschqjme97.png

There was a day and time where I use to carry my point and shoot camera wherever I went. Every college party, random get togethers, vacations, etc. were all captured through my trusty point and shoot. Now and days all of my memories are captured on my iPhone. Unlike the old days where I would upload pictures from my camera to my computer instantly, I don't exactly do that with my phone (at least not as often as I should). Thanks to Google Photos they solved what could be my worst nightmare, losing all my photos! Through Google Photos you can back-up all your photos onto their cloud service. You can organize your photos into categories (food, places, etc.), instantly share photos, create albums and, my favorite, create animations. You can log-on to your Google account and checkout your backed-up photos on their online photo app.

In celebration of the Google Photos, Google drove around NYC in the Waffles & Dinges truck giving away FREE waffles for a week! Who doesn't love free waffles? All you had to do was #PayWithaPhoto by taking the Google Photo challenge, each participant had 20 seconds to find a item on their phone and you win a waffle. Even if you couldn't find the picture, like myself (who has a picture of an alley on their phone?!?), you still were a winner of a free waffle! After getting my waffle fix, my husband and I decided to walk around the city for a bit and creating our own memories. We took in the sights and the early Saturday afternoon hustle of Midtown East. It's nice to know that my photos on my phone now will saved.

Fall 2015 {Budget Friendly} Hit List

 photo fall hit list_zpssiwsj9b8.png

HAT Urban Outfitters | SHIRT Forever21 | BOOTS Kelsi Dagger | DRESS Zara | BAG Zara | JACKET ASOS

August....summers last HOO-RAH! The last month before kids got to go back to school, last of the beach weekends, and summer getaways. August is also the start of fall season in stores. You'll slowly start to see fall trends start to pop up, boots, jackets, etc.. Though these days might be too hot to think about those things...I still can't help but look forward to some of the Falls trends. This season I'm all about the 1970s boho vibe. One of my favorite Fall 2015 collections was Zimmerman (read here), it's pretty much what I want my Fall outfits to look like. Explosion of 70s feminine vibe, with pops of colors and a see of flowy pieces. A couple of MUST HAVES on my list are the Zara Lace DressKelsi Dagger Polianna Boots, and Urban Outfitters Tie-Back Wide Brim Hat.

What's on your Fall hit list?

One night before an event I popped into the Anthropologie store in the Meatpacking District, where I discovered this shirt hanging on the sales rack. Though this is not the same shirt from that very store, the only had a medium left, but after I had tried it one I kept thinking about it. So during my lunch break I headed to the SoHo location, it was just my luck they had two left and one was in my size! The sleeves, the material, everything about it....I just had to have it. With no hesitation I headed to the sales clerk to checkout. If I could, I would wear this shirt everyday...it's so soft and light. There really isn't anything not to love about this shirt. It pairs well with jeans, shorts, skirts....EVERYTHING. I can really go on and on about this shirt, but I'll stop right here.

Have you ever found something but didn't have your size so you became compulsive to track it down?
