Inspirational Monday: Oversized Head Scarves

Picture on the left: Marc By Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 (Vogue)
Headwraps from Top to Bottom: 1. Marc by Marc Jacobs $78 | 2. Urban Outfitters $60 | 3. Genie by Eugenia Kim $40

I'm definitely feeling the oversized headwraps that was seen during the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2013 show. I love that this trend is an extension of the turban trend from the winter, but has a lighter take on it with chiffon, jersey or silk fabrics. During the Marc by Marc Jacobs show Marc Jacobs overlaid scarves with his head wrap turban. I love that it played with colors and even made it look wider. This trend is great for the ladies that dye their hair, it'll definitely keep your hair protected from the sun, and for those of use with bangs. If we so choose we can pull our bangs back and hide them under the turban allow us to get an even tan on our face. The best thing about this trend is that you don't necessarily have to run out and buy headwraps. You can take your favorite scarf and tie it around. Keiko Lynn did a little tutorial way back  that you can check out here.

Sunday was a beautiful day in the city and the fiance and I took total advantage of it by heading down to the Brooklyn Bridge Park. I wore my favorite hippy pants and to match I pulled out my scarf to tie around my hair.

This would be my accidental urban cowgirl look. It's the subtle hints to this look that gives me this feeling: the belt, turquoise ring, snake skin print bag, and low cowboy boots. I'm just so happy that the weather is allowing me to break out my lighter shades of jeans. I haven't worn these floral print jean since last Spring...which I almost forgotten about since they got buried underneath everything else.

What are you excited to break out of your closet this spring?

Inspirational Monday: Totally Mod

This Spring I'm feeling the retro flair of fit and flair dresses and mod shifts. I really fell in love with the throw back looks from Alice + Olivia's Spring 2013 collection. I love the simplicity and femininity of this nod to the late 50s, early 60s fashion. It's a look that is flattering on most body shapes as well as looks that you can wear during the week and on the weekends. It's also a trend that you can make your own.

I paired my favorite fit and flare dress with a jean jacket and wedges for a Friday day to date night look. Pairing it with a jean jacket and a statement necklace brings it to modern times.

Sneak Peek: Ann Taylor Fall 2013

Last week I was invited to the Ann Taylor Fall 2013 preview at their studio space. Maybe it's because I'm getting older and looking for functional clothing that can transition between work, play, and even interviews but with each Ann Tayor preview I appreciate their line full of fashionable work wear. Ann Taylor has proven once again that sophistication doesn't have to mean old or boring. The Fall 2013 line was full of fun prints and a darker palette with pops of colors.

I loved the playfulness of the line, especially in the accessories. The small bow clutch bags that came candy coated and darker hues were one of my favorite pieces. They allow for a pop of color during the fall and winter months. One of my favorite head to toe looks oddly enough for me was an all black assemble with a leather top and pencil skirt. It had a sense of sexiness but with a classy sophistication, the perfect grown up look that you want on a date night.

Within this collection, Ann Taylor showed woman that they can feel sophisticated and fashionable with a sense of youthfulness no matter what age they are. The collection also allows the every day woman to feel confident at work without losing their fashionable edge. Work fashion is so important especially for woman, and for woman that are looking to get ahead in their field. What you chose to wear at work says a lot about you and your confidence. Let your confidence shine with fashionable work wear.

Introducing Jewelry Desinger Daria de Koning

I feel so lucky to live in a city full of creative people, and I love meeting people that are passionate about their work. I had the pleasure of meeting fine jewelry designer Daria de Koning at her studio space. De Koning is not only passionate about her jewelry work but her jewelry is unique and creative. Even her background is unique, she is formally trained in art and graphic design, but then went into graduate school to become a Gemologist. She not only has these trades, along the way she picked up metalsmithing which she uses to hand create all her jewelry pieces. Since her jewelry is hand crafted, her pieces can be customized.

I truly fell in love with all of her jewelry. As a bride-to-be I gravitated to her pearl earrings, which really are the perfect wedding day earrings. Along with the wedding/engagement ring bands. I have gotten into a habit of stalking out wedding bands and I loved the simplicity and daintiness of  de Koning's bands.

All of de Koning's jewelry are statement makers. It's amazing to think that de Koning has hand designed and made the pieces herself- especially as someone who always wished she could whip of a piece of fashion. In high school my best friend and I tried to make charm bracelets. Well, I was constantly in the beading stores in the Fashion District because I lost at least a charm a week. Needless to say I am not a jewelry maker...and I can barely sow. I'm totally impressed with de Koning unique creativity. She thinks outside the box, which a lot of woman now and days are looking to stand out amongst the rest.

De Koning's pieces speak for themselves. I look forward to working with de Koning on future projects. You all will have to wait and see with that. And I look forward to seeing what other unique designs she will come up with next.

Warmer weekends means my favorite basics - t-shirt, jeans, and flats. Basics doesn't mean that it has to be boring. Shake up the basic routine with a printed scarf and jewelry. It's perfect for the weekend brunches or shopping dates.

What is your weekend uniform?

Dana-Maxx Fall 2013

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the lovely Dana-Maxx studio to preview the Fall 2013 collection. Her inspiration was taken from famed artist Georgia O'Keefe, but mainly focused on O'Keefe's New Mexican art work. The inspiration can really be seen in the beautiful neutral and unique color palette; shades of nude, sunflower, and pumpkin.

With her signature stamp of young sophistication Dana was also able to create an ease to this collection. It's ready to wear at it's finest. There are plenty of pieces to mix and match, to go from day to night, work to weekend. A few of my favorite pieces were the ones that can transition within your closet like the soft pull over sweater with leather and zipper detail.

I also loved the mix of ultra sexy cropped tops, and feminine sophistication with capes and matching suits.  Her collection is really the epitome of  a woman's closet. The days that we feel like dressing up, dressing down, looking classic, but always looking chic is in this collection.

I always love stopping by the Dana-Maxx studio, not only because I know the clothes will be beautiful but also because of Dana. She is such a sweet and out going person, I truly enjoy our chats since it's not only just focused on fashion or the clothes itself. It's like seeing an old friend and catching up. I love finding connections like this.

Outfit Post: On the Bright Side

Shirt: Joe Fresh | Jeans: Forever21 | Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell | Sunglasses: Glow Accessories

I was on the bright side of things this Saturday, not only with my look but after being most of last week it was nice to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Which allowed us to discover our little hidden treasure, our rooftop! We lived in this building for 3 years and never knew we had rooftop access until recently. I have a feeling that this going to be our new photo op place (along with summer night drinking place). I mean really what is more beautiful then the New York City skyline being your backdrop?
