Visual Friend Friday: 50's Style with a Modern Twist

Finally I'm back on track with the my regular posting. I feel like I haven't done a Friend Friday in a month...okay no that's right it HAS BEEN a month. Well I'm glad to be back in the swing of things and this post is all about 50's style (brought to you by GSLillian). The saying what goes around comes around holds especially true in the world of fashion. Everything get modernized and we hold on to a lot of the same cuts from different decades. Two of my favorite cuts from the 50s are pencil skirts and fit and flare dresses. Designers and retailers have redesigned these cuts like cutting the hems a little shorter (typically 50 style dresses and skirts feel below the knee).

I've had this plaid H&M skirt for a few years now. I have gone back and forth between keeping it and letting it go. It's a weird love hate relationship I have with it. Well...this season I love it (even though it fits looser then it use too). I love that it hits right above the knee, that it's high waist, and it's slim fitting. The problem I have with it...it can be a little school girl/nun looking (it's the Catholic school girl in me). To take away from the school girl look and to make the skirt more modern I tried dressing it up with my Target oxford shirt that has a chambray sort of look for it and my new Forever21 collar necklace....also toughed up the look with my A. Wang replica bag.

(PLEASE DON'T MIND THE LOOK OF THESE PHOTOS....My boyfriend bought me a new camera for my birthday so we are still learning the settings...)
