Mid-Week Inspo: Thick Black & White Stripes

There is nothing more classic and chic then a monochrome look. I've always been a fan of stripes, but I have found myself a real love of thicker black and white stripes. It's bold in a simple way that I enjoy. I love how Julie of Sincerely Jules added a pop of color with her red sneakers. While Helena of Brooklyn Blonde kept it monochrome and elegant. I too can't get enough of the monochrome, thick stripe look myself. Plus my Tibi bunny shirt hasn't been worn in a while and these ladies were just the spark I needed.

The Nail File: Londontown USA

 photo londontown_zps41b48787.png
nail polishes c/o of Londontown USA: Kur Ridge Filler | Kur Nail Hardener | Lakur in Weekend Cheers

When it comes to my nail care routine I'm pretty basic: base coat, nail polish, and top coat. I tend to do at home manis at least once a week. It's important to have good looking nails, even though typically my nails chip by day one. Reason #1 why I splurge on good nail polish instead of going to a nail salon. Which brings me to this post...it's nice to finally find a nail polish that didn't chip on the first day!

Thanks to Londontown USA they created magic an organic and vegan friendly nail care products that are not only good for your nails but actually last. Taking out five harsh chemicals from their "Kur" treatments mean less smell and more nutrients. Let me tell you, my nails seriously need all the help they can get. They are short, not very strong, and I have noticed that the tips of my nails they have imperfections which make it impossible to get an even coat of nail polish, even when I use a base coats.

To get my perfect Londontown USA mani I started with the Kur Ridge Filler to smooth and coat my ridges in the tip of my nail. Then to ensure that my nails get stronger and to create a bond for the polish to stay longer-- a layer of the Nail Hardener went on top. Of course, for the color I went with the most vibrant pink called Weekend Cheers. Yes, I might be a nail polish hoarder, but theres not much of a variety in my collection. You'll find lots of pastels, brights, and shades of pinks. What can I say I love adding pops of color where ever I can. So this beauty was the perfect addition.

All three products were amazingly smooth. The best thing of all-- I didn't have to hear my fiance complain about the smell. You'd think after four years of living together he'd be use to it. Londontown USA is definitely my new nail addiction.

What is your nail care routine?

Wear Fall Trends Now: Menswear Inspired Shoes

 photo menswearshoes_zps1f510cbc.png
Top picture from Glamour.com

Fall selections are slowly starting to come out and if you're anything like me as soon as I add something to my closet I feel the need to wear it right away. Transitioning fall trends at the end of summer can be difficult especially when they are heavier pieces, those will have to wait. The trick to slowly mixing in fall pieces is to pick our accessories like shoes and handbags that can flow into your looks.

This fall we are all about the menswear inspired pieces from the power suit, to pin stripes, to menswear style loafers. These loafers can simply be styled now by wearing a little black dress or pairing it up with flowy summer tops. To add a bit of edge to a look pair with a pair of skinny ripped jeans, it will also add a tomboy feel to the look. Don't be afraid to play with color. Add a pop of color by mixing in loafer shoes that are unique in color, like I did. Ann Taylor's Hattie Suede Block Heels come in both a beautiful sapphire and emerald green that will make any look pop.

This one of my favorite looks that I played with recently. It allowed me to feel fall chic while still enjoying the summer look.

A Lesson in Being Tomboy Chic

 photo boysclub_zpsb1c3c824.png
Top: American Eagle | Shorts: Topshop | Jeans: American Eagle | Baseball Cap: J.Crew | Backpack: Zara
Shoes: Dolce Vita

I've always been a bit of a tomboy. I grew up around my boy cousins which meant running around and playing a little rougher then most girls. Also I'm a totally daddy's girl. So to no surprise when it comes to fashion as much as I love the girly things I also tend to love the boyish styles as well. This is why I'm totally digging the boyish chic trend that has been going on and is transitioning into the fall.

I've been scouting out the right baseball style tees for awhile, until I came across the American Eagle top from the guys section. Yes they have a female version of this top but a. the material was to thin b. the guys was a few bucks cheaper. Plus, the sloucher the top the more of a tomboy feel you can get. That doesn't mean get a size to big for your body, just make sure it hangs lose. With slouchy tops fitted jeans (especially ones that are destroyed) or cut offs work well. They keep you from looking like your swimming in your clothes. Of course you need a girly edge to your look so turn to a pair chic flats, ones that are pointed are even better, will keep the outfit looking feminine. Have fun with accessories and play with baseball caps and a backpack to finish of the look.

I played with this look myself for a casual Saturday look. After scoring a couple of gems: the American Eagle Tee, LF Store hat, and the Dolce Vita shoes I knew I had the perfect tomboy look. Then to top off the whole look I got a personalized necklace from O Necklace with my blog name on it. I love that it's feminine with the script font but plays well into the boyish look. Plus it's one of those necklaces that you can easily layer.

Inspirational Monday: Gray and White

Thanks to my best friend who just moved, I have found myself constantly on pinterest looking for interior designs. All I want to do now is redecorate my apartment. I'm a sucker for neutrals especially grays and whites with pops of color. It not only looks sleek for interior designs but also classic outfit idea. It's a no fuss chic look. Something that every woman can pull off.

Spring 2013 Trend: Asian Inspired

 photo AsianInspired_zpsfbc911c2.png
photos from Style.com
1. Lord & Taylor | 2. French Connection | 3. Topshop | 4. Urban Outfitters

One of the pluses of holding out on trying new trends or jumping on a trend wagon right away is getting these trends on sale. This the perfect time of the season to get the summer sales from sample sales to the end-of-season in-store/online sales. I've been holding out on the Asian inspired spring trend myself, even though I have my fair share of kimono style sleeved shirts. This inspiration was all designer's runways to stores like Zara (which is currently having their summer sale, my top picks are here and here). This trend can be easy to pull of with just a couple of basics or fun accessories.

Fashion is all about trying to mix things up. A great pair of floral printed silk pants like the French Connection ones can be both dressed down or up. One may think these pants wouldn't be able to work into a work wear look...wrong. A basic t-shirt, a blazer, and a pair of pumps can take these from bed to work. Throw on some red lipstick for a dramatic after work cocktail look. To have a little more ease to this look and to throw a little more inspiration into it, a great pair of chunky wooden heels is all you need. Replace a basic tee with a sold print high low top, go for neutral colors.

I actually played around with this look myself for a casual Friday outfit. It was probably one of the most comfortable outfits I have ever worn to work. PJ style pants plus chunky heels, what more could I want.

Inspirational Monday: Ruffled

Here comes one of the most girly statements ever...I love ruffles. I love ruffle skirts, dress, and maybe even shirts when done correctly. I think looking at wedding related photos and dresses have lend a helping hand in my deep love for ruffles. Yes they are super feminine and girly, but when paired with a denim jacket, a sweater, boots or a motor jacket it gives it the edgy feel that I like to throw into looks.
