Spring has Sprung in NYC

Photobucket

The boyfriend and I took a walk today down to the Brooklyn Promenade which is in Brooklyn Heights. We learned that's its only a 30 min walk from our apt. down over there. To anyone else this might sound like a long walk but not to us New Yorkers. Nothing says spring to me like a nice long walk on a day with sunshine and beautiful blue sky with white fluffy clouds. New York is at it's prettiest during the spring. To bad my camera had a malfunction during our trip :( We finally got it back up and running when we got home (go figure!).

I 100% can not get enough of my mint green pants. I'm so glad that I bought them along with the H&M coral top. They are def. the perfect pairing. Another one of my color blocking outfits this season. I also love how the nude shoes go with the paleness of the outfit which I matched with my Shiraleah bag and Target cardigan. I always get compliments whenever I wear this owl necklace. It's the perfect show piece because it isn't flashy but it gets noticed. I also found this great cheap jewelery place in my neighborhood where I bought this ring from. They have so many pieces of jewelery and all reasonably priced. I'm sure that's where I'll be shopping for jewelery A LOT.

HAPPY FRIDAY! Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Friend Friday: Fitness and Fashion

I'm going on my 4 months of hitting the gym. April has been a hard month for me and getting to the gym has been nearly impossible but starting back up has been such a delight. Working out to me is more then trying to get fit (which was the reason why I started) now it has become my stress reliever. I get to take out all my problems and stress out on the treadmill. I never started this thinking I was going to be a size 2 or a size 4 again. I started this wanting to get back into shape and wanting to tone up. Going to the gym totally has given me even more confidence in my body and I feel so much better. So with that today's Friend Friday is all about Fitness and Fashion.

Fitness and Fashion

1. Do you keep some kind of fitness routine? Why?
Thanks to my parents they bought me a 3 month membership at the gym for Christmas because they knew I wanted to get back in shape so ever since January the bf and I started going to the gym at least 3 nights a week. Sure I wanted to lose the college weight that I hadn't lost since graduating but I also wanted to feel in shape and fit. I started feeling just lazy and gross and I knew the only way to snap out of that feeling was to start going to the gym. I have always been psychically active my whole life I did gymnastics and played soccer when I was younger and went to the gym when I was in college. I just missed being active.

2. Has working out, maybe training for a marathon or something of that nature, helped with your own perception of body image?
Sure. I know that I'll never be a size 4 but I know that I want to be fit. I want to tone up a bit and just get into shape. I think there is absolutely a difference between being fit and being sickly skinny. Being healthy looks different then over eating or being too skinny. Just like Plus Size models aren't "fat" they are fit. They are real sized woman that have firm muscle tones and in order to be a plus size model you have to be fit.

3. When you are hitting the gym or just going out for a long walk what do you wear? Is it about functionality or fashion?
HA I did a blog entry on this (which you can read here) because I would LOVE to incorporate fashion into my workout gear like adding pops of color or incorporate a trend into it, not just doing the sweat pants and t-shirt thing (which I do anyway). There's this one woman at who goes to my gym that always looks great in her work out gear and I really admire that. She is always matched up in some way like her sports bra matches some of the color in her spandex pants (yes I notice this she's usually some how always on an equipment in front of me since I like the elliptical in the back and the StairMaster is allllll the way in the back).

SPORTS

4. Do you feel there is a cultural perception of what you ‘should’ be doing for your own physical fitness?

I think everyone thinks the same thing eat right (fruit, veggies, orangic foods, etc) and working out is what you should be doing. At least here in the states. I'm not sure if that's how it is everywhere though.

Since I left early for work and had class after work I didn't get a chance to take any pictures outside so we took a few when I got home. I was channeling my inner J. Crew today. I'm totally digging their Looks We Love page. It's so inspirational. I love the casual coolness of the looks and how relaxed they are but totally wearable for work.

HAPPY EASTER

Photobucket

The boyfriend and I colored a few Easter eggs last night after we got home from seeing Water for Elephants and enjoying a dinner out. This year we didn't do the whole exchanging of Easter gifts but instead went to Rite Aid and bought a whole bunch of chocolates that we chowed down on last night (woops). We also plan on staying home tonight and making our own Easter dinner instead of making the trek up to my aunts. Here are some pictures from our little Easter egg coloring:

Friend Friday: Inspiration

We all pick up inspiration from somewhere whether its from mother nature herself or from a celebrity there is something out there that inspires us to put on the clothes that we do, to wear our hair a certain way, or even to do make-up. Everyday I'm inspired by something if it's not someone on the train or the music I listen to I pick up on something that's around me. I hate the days where I feel a lack of inspiration and in those days I also look for something that will inspire me. Today's friend friday we'll take a deeper look into inspiration and what inspires me.

Friend Friday: Inspiration

1. Which celebrity (celebrities) do you look to for fashion inspiration?

I don't really look into celebrity fashion to much or follow a particular person. However, I do like Mila Kunis and Vanessa Hudgens style. They have a particular style that is all their own and both rock it very well. Also I think Daktoa Fanning has really grown up into her sense of style.

Photobucket

2. When it comes to your own personal style, what inspires you?

I get a lot of inspiration from magazine editorials. Whether its just colors, patterns, or a particular style I like to pick up trends and a look from it. I also get a lot of inspiration from other bloggers. I like to see how other people wear particular things like how someone would pair up their leather jacket. I like to use websites like lookbook and chictopia to see how other "regular" people are wearing trends.

Photobucket

3. How do you hope to inspire your readers?
I hope my readers take away different bits and pieces of my blog. Whether it inspires them to write, dress differently, or anything artistic I just want to inspire something in them.

4. Outside the realm of fashion who/what inspires you?
Music has always been a source of inspiration to me. I'm not a singer, I can't really play an instrument, and I'm not a lyricist but music always touched a chord with me. I always have music on when at work and when I was in high school and college I ALWAYS played music while doing school work and studying. It was the only way for me to get anything done.I keep my music on to motivate me to do work (and to write). I sadly don't listen to music much at home anymore unless it is to clean but certain songs always move me in away. Music has also inspired me to write certain things like blog post but it has also inspired my fashion sense too. Music has always played a major role in my life.

5. And since Idol is ending… Which songs inspire you?
O man this is a hard one. There are so many bands and musicians that inspire me. Lately I have been listening to a lot of Florence & the Machine especially the end of the cd (from Cosmic Love on).

What inspires you guys?

Steal the Stars Coachella Style for Festival Season

Festival season has been offically kicked off with the celebrity infused music festival Coachella. Lots of stars were out rocking their best festival gear this year. The top three favorites this year were Katy Perry in her D&G lace dress, Kate Bosworth in her Topshop American Flag shirt, and Vanessa Hudgens in her all out bare feet hippy gear. These ladies wore the perfect festival gear that will be around all summer.

Okay not all of us can afford to wear a D&G dress, let a lone want to wear it to a muddy festival but we can all steal and take notes from these ladies.

KATY PERRY LACE DRESS
My favorite steal for this look is the American Eagle Pintuck Mini Maxi Dress (first dress on the left $39.99). Like the D&G dress this dress is also teired but is also a bit shorter, falls right on the knee. The tiers of the dress give it a boho feel to it along with the pleated top. This dress also comes with a tie but can be taken off the dress so that it can be paired up with a belt.

For a bit more of a splurge the Free People Burn Out Halter Dress (last dress on the right...$128) is a bit more closer to the lace feel of the D&G dress. This dress has crochet inserts that tiers down the dress. The dress like the AE dress is shorter then Perry's but falls below the knee. Look for dresses that have similarities to a designer dress wheather it's small details like the tiers or lace inserts or just the look of the dress. Pulling off looks doesn't mean buying a knock off but means getting an inspiration from it.

The Urban Outfitters Staring at the Stars dress (2nd dress from the left...$79) isn't lace but has a lace feeling to it with the soft floral print. This dress is perfect for festival wear since it is sheer which means it will be light and airy. Remember that you'll be outside all day and you don't want to wear something to heavy.

Take a page out of Perry's look and do a scarf headband. Topshop has plenty to choose from, all three headbands are from Topshop. Do a long pear necklace that you can double up on or do a necklace that has layers of pearls like the Modcloth Pearl Glam Necklace (second to the left...$40). Also don't forget some sunglasses and a cross body bag.

KATE BOSWORTH AMERICAN LOVE

Thanks to Balmain for bringing back the punk days with their ripped pinned up shirts, studded jackets, and beat up American flag shirt. Stores are now copying this trend by producing their own verison of the Balmain american flag shirt. Kate Bosworth was struting her stuff in the Topshop American Flag T-shirt pair with white cut off shorts and lace up sneakers. This look is easy to pull of. If your looking for a top that is less then Topshop's $45 American Flag Tank Top try Dorthy Perkins White American Flag Tee (second tee from the left) for $29. If your looking for a tee with attitude the Maurie and Eve's American Flag Specator Tee (last on the right...$98). This tank top is more on the pricer end but unlike the Topshop and Dorthy Perkin's tee this top's strips go all the way around.

Kate Bosworth Coachella

To truly pull the whole Bosworth look off pair the look up with high top sneakers like the classic Converse (first on the left...$45) or Topshop's Grey Suede Hi Top Trainers (second from the left....$50). Don't forget to accessorize with some friendship bracletes, bangles, and long loose necklases that have a horn tooth attached to them like the Erica Weiner The Wolf Tooth Necklace (first on the right...$30). Also do necklaces that mix with texture like pair a horn tooth up with a feather neacklace.

VANESSA HUDGENS BARE FOOTED HIPPIE LOVE CHILD

Vanessa Hudgens looks like she's right out of the 70s wandering around Woodstock with her crocket embrodied halter top, high waisted cut off jeans, coin necklace, and fringe bag. She even went as far to do some tribal war paint make up right under her eye. Her whole look and vibe is very free spirited. To recreate her look try doing a crochet top. If you want one that really stands out try Topshop's Coral Crochet Zip Back Crop Sleeveless Top (second from the left...$55). This top has the right amount of pop and has the details to blend into the vibe.

Vanessa Hudgens Cochella

ASOS Crochet Cropped Tank (thrid to the right...$53) is my favorite because of the fringe tassles that add a nice surprise to the whole top. Also the larger patterns of the top make it stand out. High waisted shorts go perfectly with cropped tops especially if you have an extra little tummy that you want to hind a bit.

Try to find shorts that are vintaged or that look vintaged. If you are trying to find some vintage bottoms try rokit.co.uk. They have a ton of different Levi and Wrangler vintage shorts. These shorts come in so many different styles and cuts. My favorites are the Levi's Stonewash Blue Demin Turn Up Shorts (first on the left....$34) the turn up on the shorts give it a clean touch but still give it a cut off feeling. Plus the light demin looks vintage and so does the cut of the shorts. The best part about this website is that their demin shorts are all super affordable and that they come in some many different styles.

To accessorize the look like Hudgens did pair it up with a cross body fringe bag, braclets, arm cuffs, and coin necklaces. Stick with gold colored jewlery and make sure to wear the arm cuffs up around your biceps.

These look are all about having a free spirit. So gear up and get your festival list ready!

What do you think about their looks? Do you have any favorites from Coachella?

I'm so sad that my vacation is over. Miami beach is such a beautiful place! Palm tree, clear blue water, frozen drinks, and Cuban food what more could you ask for?! I love South Beach too. It has everything for everybody. Plenty of restaurants, great yummy drinks, lots of people watching, and a night life. I would def. go back in a heart beat. I'm totally jealous of those who live down there. When I make my millions I will have a beach house/condo down in South Beach.
