Honor Spring 2012 Collection
Talk about a packed house! Honor's Spring 2012 Collection brought in tons of reviewers into the smallest tent, the Studio, saturday afternoon. Not only was I lucky enough to get this invite but was lucky enough to be able to see the show and snag a seat- security unforunately had to turn people away from even getting inside, no bueno.
This collection was a real treat to watch. Girls dressed in girly cocktail dresses made of pastel colors, nudes, and tulle walked down the runway. Peterpan collars and an interesting neckline that looked like a 3 on it's back pretty much ruled the collection and gave it that extra little something to the pieces.

Helen Yarmak Spring 2012
How do I like to spend my Friday evenings during fashion week? In a small hot room viewing fur coats for the spring in a 5th Ave. building that has a huge deck and a beautiful view of Central Park. Not to mention being surrounded by fabulous people like Iman Chanel and Patrica Field. With that being said this was my surroundings Friday evening at the Helen Yarmak Spring 2012 Presentation. And yes you did not read that wrong fur for the spring! Fur jackets, asymmetrical fur vest, BIG zipper fur vest, and more fur vest. Bright colored fur and you know the normal colored fur as well. FUR FUR FUR! And real fur at that! Without a doubt if you are wearing a Helen Yarmark fur piece you will feel glamorous....and expensive.
Clothes trend also included brights like yellow, pink, red, and orange. Yarmak also mixed in nudes with her brights to tone down and also give a flesh color appeal to it.
I love all the brights and the slick back hair...It's got the I just got out of the pool/shower chic to it. Either way her cut are simple and classic and paired up with her jewelry and fur coats you'll be looking like a million bucks.

Supima Design Competition Spring 2012
The official start to Fashion Week was Thursday....and for me it was the Supima Design Competition to kick off this amazing week I embarked on. Supima was SUPREME---A. I was happy to get to experience the show with my fashion partner in crime Pamala from Addikited2fashion. We sat 3 rows from the front at the opening of the runway and semi-across from Rachel Zoe (yes thee Rachel Zoe), premo seats indeed. It was interesting to get a peak of the clothes that were about to come out and even see the models get their last minute touch ups before hitting the runway. Behind the scenes is always intriguing to me. A lot goes on back there....in one huge crazy blur. And in that blur you get what tends to be an amazing 20 minute runway show...
Anyway....If you didn't read my post about Supima and this design competition (which you all should have) I'll fill you in...a bit. Supima is a cotton a promotional organization of the American Pima cotton growers that supplies companies like Brook Brothers, Uniqlo, and Land's End who host a design competition for graduating seniors from top design schools for the past 3 years. This 4th year the lucky 8 students that participated, Amy Bittner and Jusil Carroll from the Fashion Institute of Technology; MaRu Jung and Dara Rosen from Pratt Institute; Rachel Pullman and Connie Weng from the Rhode Island School of Design; and Lorena Cuevas and Marlow Larson from the Savannah College of Art and Design, got to debut their work at Lincoln Center. Previously this show was hosted off site. These students work were NOT your typical "student runway show." By far. This was much more then that. Each of their collections (they each did 5 contemporary woman looks) looked professional. If no one told me these were student designs I would have never known. Each collection was well defined and looked like they have been doing it for years.
WINNER JUSIL CARROLL, F.I.T. Her looks were inspired by the Blair Witch Project.

AMY LYNN, F.I.T. Her looks remind me of a dark version of Little Red Riding Hood or fairy tales gone dark.

And this is why I like emerging designers. They have to think outside the box when it comes to creating their lines. The best innovating pieces usually come from break out artist...let's be honest to make it in this industry as a designer you need to take initiative and be creative without being to out there. Even if there is only one winner in this competition, I can't imagine the exposure that this gives each participant. I hope they all continue down on their road to success.

Tadashi Shoji Spring 2012
above photo my own you can view all of my photo on facebook
Tadashi OHMYGOSHI! What a way to jump start my fashion week with a collection like Tadashi Shoji. His Spring 2012 debuted on Thursday at Lincoln Center where I had a standing room ticket, but thanks to Pamala and those who don't show up I got a seat rows up from the front. Either way I was able to sit, rock out to some Florence and the Machine and watch some beautiful dresses come down the runway.
To say the least, this collection was not lacking in the style department, it really had it all. His show was filled with flowey dresses, bright pinks and yellows, floral prints, stripes, cremes, glitter, ombre and grassy effects. The amazing part was that he had all these different prints and colors that the collection still looked cohesive.
I love collections that have reminders of spring and nothing says spring to me like florals and grass. I love how Shoji created a grassy effect on two of his dresses. These dresses looked like he took white fabric, a paint brush, green and yellow paint and started painting straight on the fabric. I also love the mirror image effect on both these dresses.

I was truly memorized by his floral dresses, they are just so dreamy. You get lost in the movement and gorgeous soft palate. These dresses are perfect for a spring/summer wedding, even though wearing one of these dresses will definitely get you in trouble with the bride since I'm pretty sure these can out shine her dress. I can also see these beauties being worn to the most sophisticated garden parties.

Ombre, stripes, and bright colors! I especially adored the first dress that came down the runway. It was bright pink, had an ombre effect, and looked like a tulip. Yes....a tulip. Forget everything you know about the tulip hem. This dress will make you look like a pretty pink flower with out looking like you threw on a costume.

This collection is super feminine and had a lot of different prints, colors, and looks which helps appeal to all woman....of all ages. This has been one of my favorite collections so far that I've seen. I'm a sucker for girly spring dresses and thats exactly what this collection is. If you're a sucker like I am I suggest you going to look at Tadashi Shoji's collection in whole NOW.
