NYFW Fall 2015: Charles Youssef's Tectonic
all pictures taken by me. see more here.
On Wednesday afternoon, I kicked off Fashion Week a bit early with a presentation of Charles Youssef's Fall 2015 collection. This is his third collection after launching his Resort 2015 line. Youssef was inspired this season by the artist David Batchelor's "Magic Hour" light installation and architect Tadao Ando's concrete staircase. These inspirations were seen throughout the collection through his use of zigzag appliques, smooth matte silk, sheer and cracks inspired by the earth's plate tectonics.
This collection was uniquely beautiful. I love the structure shoulders of his wool cashmere blend origami boucle top and black origami dress shirt. These strong structures remind me of a bold strong New York woman. The black sheer silk organza wrap dress and wool crepe dress with multi-layer silk organza layers helped give the collection a softer feminine feel. I could see taste makers (or myself) rocking the black sheer dress with wide brim hats and cowboy boots at concert halls and downtown bars.

NYFW Spring 2015: Luis Antonio's Maritime
The first look down the runway had me going gaga. Look after look I was just so excited and interested in seeing more. This whole collection had this vacation/resort feel. I loved the abstract prints paired with the stripes. There was a sense of playfulness with in the collection with the use of prints, such as the abstract rope prints. It's hard to say what pieces were my favorites as I loved the jumpsuits and the abstract print gowns...but the long tulle skirt with the white shimmery top totally stole my heart...from the way it flowed and shimmered down the runway...SWOONS.
It's always important for a debut collection to make an impact and I really think this one made a statement. When asked which collections I've seen has been my favorite, this one is on my list.

NYFW Spring 2015: August Getty MBFW Debut
photos taken by me
Friday night designer August Getty made his first fashion week debut under the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tents. His Spring 2015 show was feminine and whimsy. Getty's collection was a perfect mix of girly, sexy, and fierceness. Pastel pinks and purples were mixed into this collection that was filled with black and white pieces. He drew inspiration from the flowers he would draw as a kid while at his family's botanical garden.
This collection was a great fashion week debut. His clothes moved well and had a sense of wonder. Remembrance is important when you are a starting designer and there were pieces in the collection that stood out, including the black and white dress with the oversized skirt. Which was one of my favorite pieces.

For Spring 2015 Nicky Zimmermann was inspired by a 1970's tarot card deck illustrated by David Palladini. The first dress in collection set the tone for the rest of the runway show. The powder blue dress flowed down the runway much like the rest of her collection. This spring was all about delicate laces, colors, tulles, and a touch of sparkle.
With just looking at the collection I would have never guessed that she was inspired by a tarot card deck. The vintage aspect was seen through out the collection, but once I learned about the tarot card inspiration I sort of saw it a tarot card reader in some of the pieces, like the off the shoulder white top with the pillowing gold pleated skirt. I truly loved the femininity in this collection. I adore the lace dresses as well as her sexy little bathing suits. Seriously though, I wish I could afford most of her collection. Not sure where I would wear some of it it but it sure is gorgeous!

NYFW: Jay Godfrey's Western Boho Chic Spring 2015
see all photos on the facebook page. all photos taken by me.
I love that this collection had a 60's western twist to the boho look. My favorite two looks of course was the matching and leopard print blazer and pants as well as the long lace tunic top. Although I'm not sure how I felt about some of the hair. I would have gone with more hippie boho hair then some of the bigger 60s hair that was done.
Overall I found the collection wearable as well as relatable. There were pieces in there that were definitely meant to be taken to music festivals, while there were others that were perfect little cocktail dress numbers and pieces to be mix and matched.
