Spring Trends: Totally Nautical

Spring Trends: Totally Nautical

Wallis navy top / Uniqlo coat / Topshop skinny fit jeans / Keds lining shoes / ALDO

There is something about the nautical look that I love. It's one of those perfect summer trends that never goes out of style...especially when out on the beach or on a boat. It's also a trend that you don't need to spend a lot of money on, you might even have some pieces in your closet right now!

For an early spring look you can easily pull off the nautical trend that was seen at Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors runway shows for Spring 2013 by pairing up your favorite striped shirts and sweaters. The trick to layering stripes, so that it doesn't seem so scary, is to play with different sized stripes. Try a smaller width stripped shirt under a thicker width striped sweater. Another is to play with colors, try a navy striped paired with a red stripe, these tricks are to help with the contrast and not looking totally stripe on stripe. To keep the look from being to stripped crazy pair neutral tones to your look like a pair of white jeans or black shoes.

This past weekend my fiance and I went to Atlantic City for a mini anniversary getaway and I was totally inspired by-- A. hitting the beach B. Tommy Hilfiger's Spring ads (which are popping up in every magazine). I decided that a little nautical look for the trip would be deemed appropriate and fun. I paired my white pair of jeans from H&M with two of my favorite striped tops along with my trench to keep me some what warm.

To say the least this mini trip made me long for summer even more. It was great to get out of the city, to see the beach, and breath some fresh air...but it was a total tease being at the beach and not really being able to be on it. Even though we got totally lucky with the weather!

What do you think of the nautical trend?
