This past week was "Spring Break"...though I haven't had a Spring Break in 8 years I couldn't help but to start thinking about summer and swimsuit season. These pictures were taken in part of Target #NOFOMO campaign (you can read about it on my instagram), but I wanted to repost this since I can not wait to actually wear these swimsuits this Summer.  I haven't worn a one piece in YEARS. But the palm leaf print (get it here) totally spoke to me. I'm loving that the one piece has been updated with lower backs and cut outs (like this one and also this!). As far as bikini's go I've been more into the sporty looking tops (love this Free People top) and higher waisted bottoms (like these). Though I we don't have any beach vacations planned, I can not wait to spend my summer weekends at Rockaway Beach and hitting up my favorite spot, Rockaway Surf Club.

Labor Day weekend is always like the last hurrah of summer. It's the last long weekend of the warm days, the last chance to soak it all in before winters come. The husband and I took it all in by spending the day at Rockaway Beach. And what better way to bid adieu to summer then in a polka dot bikini. It might not be a yellow polka dot bikini but it is in my new favorite style...high waist bottoms. I've really gotten into high waist swimsuit bottoms as it hides my lower stomach, which I consider my "problem area." This swimsuit from one from Pink Basis is super cute, and totally my style. I love that I can mix and match this swimsuit with a lot of other ones that I have. If you're a total beach babe don't worry they have more your style.

PS Don't mind the huge band aid on my shin...Friday I was at the gym and totally ate it on a box jump. So I have a nasty bruise and cut. Better to have covered it up since I doubt anyone wants to see that.

Enter to win a $50 Gift Card to Pink Basis! If I had $50 to Pink Basis I would definitely get this off the shoulder top and these nude bow tie heels. Or if you are a planner...they even have Halloween costumes up already! Totally love this witch costume....never to early right?! Anyway...ONE LUCKY WINNER will be chosen at random. Contest ends Tuesday 9/22 at Midnight!

The fiance and I found this little gem of a spot this weekend. Who knew there was a small pop-up pool at the Brooklyn Bridge Park?! This is much closer then any beach, since the park is walking distance (or at least 3 stops on the train) from where we live. It's a small pool that only allows 60 people in for a 45 minute swim session starting at each hour. Next to the pool is a little beach area and a lemonade stand that starts to sell boozey drinks starting at 6pm. But of course since we went on Sunday we had to take a walk over to Smorgasburg to get our food on. Glad I found this with enough time left in the summer to  enjoy to this spot.

How are you staying cool this summer?

Dreaming of Resort Wear with SwimSpot

O how I dream of warmer places, especially as the weather here in NYC drops. I'm jealous of everyone about to take their vacations in warm climate destinations,  I mean we are on the brink of Resort season. So here we are at the start of winter and what do I get in the mail-- a swim suit courtesy of SwimSpot. Such a tease. Especially with the fact that I won't be going away anytime soon, saving up for a honeymoon...wedding and all. But gosh do I love this Splendid swim suit. The bikini top has my all time favorite neckline, the sweetheart neckline, and the cutesy flower print make the swimsuit super adorable. Instead I will pretend as if I'm going away and sit in my hot apartment pretending I'm down in the Caribbeans drinking pina coladas...show you what I would wear with my Splendid Farmer's Market Bikini.

Dress: Roxy, Swimsuit: Splendid c/o SwimSpot, Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs,
Hat: c/o Ann Taylor, Sunglasses: Karen Walker

Beach Wear:
Beach wear...pool wear...wherever you go to lounge on your vacation it should be the simplest and easiest look of all. This is the one time where wearing less (literally) is best. And the easiest clothing you can take on and off is appropriate A simple tunic or sundress is always my go to beach wear.

Shirt: Zara, Jeans: DIY Tie-Dye, Swimsuit: Splendid c/o SwimSpot, Bag: c/o Lodinatt
Flip Flips: Old Navy, Sunglasses: Karen Walker

About Town:
When strolling about a beach town I love going for the basics like cut off shorts, tank tops, and flip flops. If you're in a beachy place like Miami a bathing suit under every outfit is a must. You never know when you'll end up on the beach...but you can consider that pretty much a done deal.

Shirt: Tommy Hilfger, Shorts: DIY cut-offs, Swimsuit: Splendid c/o SwimSpot, Bag: c/o Lodinatt
Sunglasses: Raybans, Sneakers: Puma

Adventures:
If you're the adventurous type you know that a pair of sneakers on a vacation is a must. I know that when my fiancee and I were in Hawaii we were roaming about different trails on the searching for waterfalls; so sneakers, a tote bag that carried everything from water to lotion (plus room for flip flops), and clothing that allowed me to breathe was essential. A swimsuit underneath is needed so that taking your shirt off won't be deemed inappropriate.

What do you wear on your vacations?

Rica Swimwear Summer 2012

It's that time again-- swimwear season. I have never been a fan of actually going swimwear shopping especially when you find a bathing suit but it comes in a set and your top and bottom don't match in size! My other favorite is when you try on a bathing suit and it looks great in the fitting room but then you get home and try it on again and it doesn't even look the same-- you find the muffin top that wasn't there or something else that didn't show up in the fitting room mirrors. Tricky bastards! #Girlproblems.

Last week I was invited to attend the Rica Swimwear preview by designer Ava Sanjurjo and given my current feelings on swimwear I was hesitant on attending but the fact that it was held at Caravan Studios and that it's only about 4 blocks and a avenue away from my office building I would  have felt guilty on passing it up. On the upside I'm really glad I did make it out to this event. Sanjurjo is not only talented on creating swimwear for real woman but she is super adorable and sweet. Her creations are made for the New York woman looking to get out of the City for vacation or for just the weekend. She plays with color but since most of us New Yorkers love our black she had some great black pieces with pops of color in them.

This collection is really made for woman everywhere looking to feel sexy and comfortable while out by the pool or beach. My favorite bathing suit was the two piece rainbow stripped bikini. It's just one of those bathing suits that flatters any size chest woman. Keeping those with plenty safely tucked in while those lacking in the department won't look like ..for lack of better words...flat. It also has the support that many triangle bathing suits are lacking not only the support for the girls but support to actually keep them in when a wave hits you. No matter how big or small the wave is those Victoria Secret bathing suits just DO NOT hold up against them.

This swimwear collection is one of the very few that I would actually gladly try on. And by few I mean she's one of two designers (the other designer is Mara Hoffman) on my list of bathing suits that I won't go kicking and screaming to try on.
