On Feburary 22nd the exhibition Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty was previewed at the Ritz in London, which was the first place McQueen did his show after he graduated. This year Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute will focus on McQueen's work. There will be over 100 pieces from his collections on exhibit from May 4th to July 31st.

This week has been a really long week! Glad that today is Friday!!! To bad I don't have a 3 day weekend like most of the American workers for Colombus Day. All well. I hope everyone has a great weekend and had a fantastic week!

Sarah Burton has taken over the Alexander McQueen line and debuted her work on October 5 at Paris Fashion Week. This Spring 2011 speaks volumes. Her and McQueen's vision was a match made in heaven. The fashion world and those who love fashion should be thankfully that there is someone like Burton who could continue on with McQueen's work and legacy. 2. Zara Court Shoe with Laces 
I bought these shoes from Zara this past week for a wedding that I have to go to this weekend. I couldn't wait to wear these shoes so I wore them twice. Everytime I buy something new I have to wear it right away. I hate waiting, it's so bad. But I figured with shoes you have to break them in anyway so why not break them in before the day I actually bought them for. The good news is that these shoes are super comfy and so pretty. I can not wait to get all dressed up tomorrow with these shoes and a new H&M dress that I bought a couple of weeks back just for the wedding.
3. Mulberry for Target

Mark your calenders Sunday is the offical day Mulberry for Target hits stores. I love that Mulberry has teamed up with Target to create an affordable handbag line! Just in time when I'm in the search for a new winter bag. You can view the lookbook here.

Miuccia Prada what were you thinking? This collection to me was a total disappointment. The jackets to the dresses were just a disaster. Nothing was body flattern and the patterns and the color blocking was just awful. Even on the skinniest model the dresses made them look much wider. What would it look on a normal sized woman? We would look like a line backer for a football team! The only thing that I liked about this collection were the shoes and simple blue silk dress (#11). In typical Miu Miu fashion the shoes were fun and fashion forward. Mixing oxford styles with heels and buckle ankles. What happen Miuccia? Miu Miu's Fall 2010 was great and then this? UGH.

All I can say about this collection is O H M Y G O D. Thank you to Sarah Burton for keeping Alexander McQueen alive. She worked beside him for 15 years and thankfully she has the same vision as him. The one difference I did notice between Burton and McQueen is that Burton is a lot more body conscious. She knows the female body well, it also does help that she is a woman. These pieces are more body sculpted which gives it more a more feminine edge but she throws in the McQueen signature pieces like the tail coat. I agree with style.com's Tim Blanks "Burton also softened the staging, a concept that was always so critical to a McQueen show. Where his narratives were often dark, discomfiting things, she opted for a nurturing atmosphere: a pagan, Earth-Mother-ly spirit. " Even the clothing has a more softer feel to it. She opened the show with a white suit and then filled in the rest of the show with elements of nature. She does play up the McQueen hard edge with accessories like belts and sharp edges to the clothing themselves. Her work mixed with McQueen's vision works tremendously well.
To be honest I had a hard time posting this blog. Picking which pieces to post was really difficult. I don't want to post a whole collection here, I never want to take away from style.com, but this was really hard to pick out pieces that are worth showing since this collection is worth viewing. I mean every collection is worth viewing but this...this is just magical.
There really isn't anything that I don't love about this collection. The dresses at the end of the collection are just mind numbing. The 4th to last dress shown here (#31 in the collection) reminds me of water and waves. The 3rd to last picture (#30 in the collection) has a very mother nature feel to it since she is wrapped in a flowered dress, literally. Something very sort of Eve from Adam and Eve, where all that is covering her body is leaves. This truly is a show stopper, breathe taken collection. Anyone who disagrees I will say they obviously don't understand fashion and they never understood McQueen. It's sad that he himself didn't create these pieces but I'm so glad there is someone out there who can continue his legacy. I'm sure Burton has done him proud.

The Real Culture Wars: Who Killed Alexander McQueen?
The Huffington Post had a great article called "The Real Culture Wars: Who Killed Alexander McQueen?" It's about McQueens death and funeral. The whole article is great but the last two paragraphs I found to be really powerful:
I think everyone should read this article. You won't be sorry that you did, maybe a little sad but not sorry.
It's tempting to say that it's a "sad irony" that a genius fashion designer
hanged himself in his clothes wardrobe. It's tempting to say that it's a
"celebration" of his life that the most famous models in the world showed up to
his funeral wearing spectacular clothing. But it's neither ironic that he hanged
himself in his closet, nor an act of redemption that fashion models came to his
funeral looking like fashion models.
The closet full of clothes was the only
place he could go, despite his unlimited access to inaccessible people, and the
fashion models could never understand that a tribute to the man -- the person,
not just his work -- would come in the rending of rags worn, in spite of the
cameras, to his burial.
I think everyone should read this article. You won't be sorry that you did, maybe a little sad but not sorry.
