Summer Fridays: Graphic Tee and Pencil Skirt

Many offices celebrate the summer by giving their employes summer Fridays. Which usually means half days. Well Fridays in my office just got a little quieter, our summer Fridays means full day off Fridays. Okay not every Friday, but 7 Fridays. I'll take it! Since the office will be more quiet and Fridays have always been more casual I decided to play around with the graphic tee by dressing it up a bit with a pencil skirt. I went bold with my Ninja Turtles graphic tee and paired it with my Tibi skirt (another score from the sampel sale!). To finish the look, I paired it with ankle strap heels to keep it dressy.

Dressing up a graphic tee is perfect for those days that call for after work hour cocktails. Also know your office surroundings. Don't go too bold with a graphic tee if you don't think it'll be work appropriate, instead try tees like Ted Baker Briya Bird Graphic Tee or Michael Kors Palm-Print Jersey T-Shirt.

Would you dare to wear a graphic tee with a pencil skirt?

Something about this outfit spoke Parisan to me. Maybe the black and white stripes and red lips did it. Either way I'm completely in love with my new midriff baring Tibi shirt that I acquired from the their sample sale. I found it after digging through sample boxes and once I tried it on I knew it had to come home with me. The shirt was simply too adorable to pass up on. This def. won't be the last time you see it. Also, how cute are these Shoemint shoes? Cute right...well they are also deadly. They have no traction on them so walking on carpet is a bad life choice. I nearly broke my neck walking down my apartment building stairs (I live in a walk up that has carpeted stairs). I learned my lesson take it slow down the stairs when  wearing these shoes.

The weather has been pretty fickle lately going in between 50s to 70s...It's hard to even try and figure out what to throw on most days. I must admit I do love the cooler 60 degree weather as much as I love the warmer 70s. Being able to throw on a sweater or a hoodie paired with bare legs is one of my ultimate favorite looks. Mostly because I'm a creature of comfort and like to wear things that allow me to feel like I'm relaxing but still dressed up.

Inspirational Monday: The Grown Up Skort

skort

I haven't really gave to much thought about skorts. Then again when I think of the skort I think of my childhood ones like the variety of jean and khaki ones that I owned. Being an adult now I never thought I would see one that I liked or even wear one. Well I was ooo soooo wrong. After hitting the Tibi sample sale a few months back my view on the skort had ever been changed. How could you not love a mint green skirt that cut open in the front to reveal hidden shorts. Hanging on the rack I knew it had to be mine. Perfect for work for the summer and something that can be taken into winter - functional and at a discount of the price I just couldn't pass it up.

Shirt: Old Navy (old)
Skort: Tibi (sample sale)

Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Bag: c/o R&Em

Sunglasses: local Brooklyn Boutique

Scarf: Alexander McQueen (ebay)

I love that Tibi took something full of youth and made it sophisticated and still yet playful. It is a piece that can easily be worn to work without having it being inapporiate. I love that Tibi always has the everyday woman but someone who still likes to look young but chic at the same time.

What do you think of the grown up skort? Would you wear it?

I had bought these shorts from the Tibi sample sale that was a couple of weeks ago in NYC. I had gotten lucky finding these in the sample boxes so I scored them for $40! I must say the Tibi sample sale was one of the best sample sales that I have been to in a long time, prices were reasonable (expect for some of the dresses) but I really loved that they had boxes full of samples and that they were cheaper then the other stuff. I love when sample sales actually have affordable items...makes it worth fighting for mirror space...or just fighting your way to the racks of clothes....

PS these pictures were taken right before my vacation so hence the very white legs. Sorry.

NYFW: Tibi Fall 2012

photo taken by me (see more on my fb page)

Pastels, maxis, and light-airy frocks were nowhere in sight for Tibi's Fall 2012 collection. Instead designer Amy Smilovic went a different route with a more sophisticated look for the Fall. The collection was reminiscent of Celine like structured turtle necks and Miu Miu style bird prints. My favorite looks from this collection were the metallic skirts, along with the shiny green sweater and patching pants. I felt refreshed after seeing these pieces come down the runway since it was something that I had yet seen. Plus it gave it the young playful vibe that Tibi is known for having. I also was happy to see that oversized blazer styled coats aren't going anywhere-- they are the perfect layering tool.

No matter what you think of the collection there is no denying that Smilovic has amazing tailoring skills. I can see it now-- woman who already love designs such as Celine and Chloe walking into Tibi and buying her clean cut tailored pants by the armful. These pants are perfect for work and play for the Fall months.

What do you think of Tibi Fall 2012 collection? Do you think you'll go bold and wear metallic foil skirts?

Tibi Spring 2012 Collection

view more of my photos on my facebook fan page

To be honest I was sad by the thought of not getting an invite to Tibi's Spring show but to my surprise I got an invite in my inbox asking to RSVP. YES YES and YES. When walking into the Stage and seeing the unique runway set up (they had a row of seats right down the middle of the runway creating two walk ways) I knew I was in for a thrill. Tibi's collection did not disappoint. Girly frocks, wide leg pants, clean and sleek lines ruled this runway. I'm a huge fan of clean lines (reasons why I love lines like Celine and Chloe)....and neutrals...and pastels....sooo Tibi's spring line was a grand slam for me. I was also please to see that mint green isn't going anywhere either since my closet slowly became full of mint green clothing this past summer.
