While we are spring ahead this week...I had to take advantage of the warmer weather last week, where taking your jacket off doesn't mean a chance of pneumonia. Yes, 50 degrees in the middle of January is warm for us New Yorkers. Even in the mornings, when these photos were taken, it was much more mild then say a week or two before. I much rather have a cool crisp winter then a freezing cold one. I love wearing hats and layers but I also like having to get away with not having to wear boots and heavy socks all the time. This outfit alone reminds me of Spring with it's brightly contrasting colors. Pink and red is one of my favorite color blocking mixes, maybe because they are in the same color family...I don't know what it is...but I love it.

Do you feel like sprining ahead?

Springing Ahead: Modern Vintage

As I sit on the train under my New York City layers, I find myself dreaming about Spring and it's upcoming trends. One of my favorite trends for this Spring season is the modern take on some vintage looks. Designer Stacey Bendet, for Alice + Olivia, did her own remake of the "mod" look using her fun and playful feminine aesthetics. While designer Joy Cioci made a splash with her own take on 1920s and 30s decades.

Reasons to love that the Mod look is making a comeback this Spring: 1. Lots of A-Line and Fit and Flares which look great on anybody type 2. more modest hemlines make outfits chicly appropriate for the office.
Stacy Bendet is no stranger when it comes to beautiful feminine frocks and this season she nailed the mod style perfectly with pastel colors, body flattering dresses, and bold prints. Also her undeniable flare of making clothes look young, new, and playful. This collection has everything a woman needs in her closet-- clothes that take you from day to night, weekend wear, and beautiful evening wear. It's really hard not to love this collection from head to toe to handbag.

Stepping into Joy Cioci's Spring 2013 preview was like stepping back into the 1920s/30s. Cioci gave a huge nod to the synchronized swimmers of this period with her swimmer bonnets. Whether you would personally wear one or not you can't help but appreciate the details in the design. Some adored with pearls and lace others simply made with lace and fabric. Maybe these won't be as a big of a hit with the everyday woman, more like with the Anna Dello Russo crowd, but her Spring 2013 collection is for the woman who isn't afraid of being bold. Contrasting prints are seen throughout the collection along with lace and skin bearing clothing.

What do you think of these collections? Are you ready to mix some old decades in with the new?

Hairspiration: Stylenoted's The Braided Rainbow

photo from Stylenoted.com

After I saw this posted on ARROJO's Blog, Stylenoted, I knew I had to try it...or well at least give it my own spin. My bangs have grown out of control and I have been pushing them to the side (the lack of trim isn't because I'm lazy or because I'm growing them out I just been waiting to actually go get a hair cut) so this style gives my long fringe a actual look and not like I'm trying to move them out of my face. Plus, I'm just so happy that my hair is long enough to pull into braids across my head.

I tried to do the bun but it wasn't working out for me to well, so I opted to leave it in a ponytail. I was really impressed how well this hair-do held up since I literally spent the whole day out, work and after hour cocktails.

Would you give this hair-do a try?

Inspirational Monday: Neon Beanies

Left: Helena of Brooklyn Blonde                                      Right: Krystal of This Time Tomorrow

I was hoping that Santa would bring me a neon beanie for Christmas. Especially after I saw post from Helena of Brooklyn Blonde and Krystal of This Time Tomorrow rocking their own neon beanies. Thankfully Santa Brian bought me my neon beanie that I had wanted from Topman, which by the way is cheaper then the Topshop beanies...Now I'm slightly obsessed with my beanie want them in more colors. I have a feeling that I'm going to have a collection of beanies soon.

Outfit Post: So this is the New Year

Dress: Jill Stuart

Every New Years I have the Death Cab for Cutie song "The New Year" stuck in my head, hence the title of this post. It's a little emo but I love it.

I had a great New Years Eve at my friend's apartment playing games, cooking food, and of course drinking with some of my best friends. Plus there's nothing like that midnight kiss to kick start a fresh new year.
