Throwback Thursday with Boohoo: Cher Horowitz (Clueless)
photo from Mangomini
I'm a total 90's child. This was the decade that I grew up in, and damn was it a good one. We had classic movies like Clueless, She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc. Being that I grew up with these iconic movies, my fashion icon of course was none other then Cher Horowitz of Clueless. I adopted her plaid skirts, over the knee socks, and yes of course the puffy feather pens in grade school. I wanted her whole closet, including her computer system. So when Boohoo approached me about doing a Throwback Thursday post on re-creating a vintage style star of my choice the first person to come to mind was Cher. She was the master of plaid, mini skirts, and matching outfits.
Her style has been proving to be timeless as sites like Buzzfeed have done articles on how to steal Cher's style. Plus, the 90s surely have been making a comeback. Boohoo has perfect dresses that has a modern feel with a 90s twist to it, like the Hannah Pinafore Dress pictured above. I love that this has the Cher feel to it, but I could dress it up like a classic 90s (as I did) with a pair of mary janes or take a modern twist to it with a leather jacket and over the knee boots. This little number will definitely be worn a-la-Cher-style many times.

Who is your style icon?

Inspirational Monday: NYFW Fall 2015
NYFW has creeped up on me yet again. With personal family business going on all last week, NYFW was the last thing on my mind. I have a few outfits already planned out like the leather joggers sporty look and my favorite little Kate Spade top and H&M skirt. I also have in mind re-working my plaid on plaid look (seen here), swapping out the Zara heels for the Shultz booties featured above. I always find Fall fashion week harder to dress for as winter is always unpredictable. Making it through Fall NYFW is all about the statement coats, accessories and shoes.
Being cooped up in the apartment after the snow storm by myself (okay not really, I did have Chubs the cat to keep me company) with baking ingredients lead me to the idea of making some donuts for breakfast. Because really what else are you to do on a snowy morning? I thought these Confetti Cake Donuts from The Novice Chef was easy and quick to make while getting some work done. I decided to add a little food dye to the frosting to give a bit of color.
recipe from The novice chef
ingredients:
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup whole milk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2.5 oz multi-colored sprinkles
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup whole milk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2.5 oz multi-colored sprinkles
for the icing:
1 tablespoon whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
a dash of red food dye (optional)
sprinkles (optional)
1 tablespoon whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
a dash of red food dye (optional)
sprinkles (optional)
directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F and grease donut pans.
In a small bowl, sifted together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together egg and sugar. Then add milk, oil, and vanilla extract; mixing until throughly combined. Gently stir in the flour mixture and sprinkles, whisking until there are no lumps.
If using mini donut pans: Carefully fill each donut indention 3/4 full. Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the donut comes out clean. Transfer donuts to a cooling rack and cool completely.
Place wax paper under a wire rack to collect any drippings for an easy clean up. Then, in a small bowl whisk together milk and vanilla extract. Add powdered sugar, whisking until smooth. Then mix in a dash of red food dye (or any color food dye of your choice). Whisk until blended into icing.
Dip the top of each donut into the icing, top with sprinkles, and transfer to a wire rack and let set for 5 minutes. Serve immediately, or donuts can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, but are best served fresh.
These donuts are perfect little breakfast for Valentines Day or for a V-Day brunch with your girlfriends.
Olivia Palermo | Billabong Skirt $34.65 (on sale now!) |
Material Girl from Macys Over the Knee Boots $51.97 (on sale now!)
What's sexier then a pair of over the knee boots and a high slit skirt? Obviously nothing when you combine the two. In Olivia Palermo fashion, she perfectly combined her thigh high Jimmy Choos with a bright orange maxi slit skirt for an event that she attended. I love that this look is sexy and sleek. It's perfect for a date night look, especially for Valentine's Day. Pair it up with a pussy bow blouse, but to keep the look on the seductive side keep the bow untied and with a couple of buttons undone. As for beauty looks, take a note from Olivia and pull your hair back into an messy bun.
How I Wore the Look:
Jacket: Zara | Top: H&M | Skirt: Olivaceous (from ideeli) | Shoes: Altuzarra for Target | Sunglasses: Tobi.com

I decided to toughed up this sexy look with a motor jacket. I love that a pair of leather over the knee boots give this whole look a bit of a bad ass feel to it. The great thing about this look is that you don't need to spend a lot of money on it. Lots of brands are doing their version of over the knee boots, like Macy's brand Material Girl, and maxi slit skirts are practically everywhere (especially as stores start to bring in their spring clothes). When it comes to finding inspiration from celebrities, I like to pull ideas from clothing that I already have in my closet. Looks like Olivia works as these might already be items hiding in your closet that might not get worn a lot. I know for me this skirt is one of those items. I like that this look re-works the skirt in away that I didn't think of doing before.
Would you wear over the knee boots with a high slit skirt?
