What to Wear with a Sheer Maxi Skirt

Sheer clothing can be quite intimating especially when it comes to sheer skirts, because really who wants to show their undies to the world? The simple solution to sheer skirts are of course slips.  Easy to pair up with and hide-- they come in nudes, black, and white. But after all this is a fashion blog and I'm not all about easy solutions. Two of my favorite fun funky ways of wearing sheer skirts are with a colorful mini underneath or wearing a body fitting tunic dress.
What to Wear with a Sheer Skirt

1. The Tunic Dress. This is probably the easiest to pull off since you don't have to worry about trying to find a top, you have it all there. Pick a more fitting tunic dress and that doesn't have ridges or ruffles. A simple bodycon dress like the American Apparel cotton spandex jersey dress would do the trick. You can go nude colored or more bold to show some pop of color. I'm a fan of wedges with maxi skirts so pull in simple accessories for your look.

I had fun pulling this look off myself recently. I bought this American Apparel white maxi skirt at the Warehouse Sale (for those of you in NYC yes it is still going on!). I went for a pretty ballerina look using my New York and Company tunic as a underlay.

2. Brightly Colored Mini Skirt. Want a more fun bold look? Pull in a bodycon mini skirt in a bold color. Doing it under a sheer skirt (especially one that is nude or white) will give the whole look a fun overlay. It will also help tone down something bright but have a peek-a-boo effect. Make sure to chose a bodycon skirt that doesn't have any textures, you want to keep it smooth. If you're daring try one with print! Keep your accessories sleek and clean.

When in doubt....pair it with a bathing suit! It is summer after all! And Liz of Late Afternoon pulled this look off fantastically!

What do you think of the sheer skirt? How would you wear it?
