Outfit Post....First Beach Trip of the Season

Photobucket

The boy and I went on our first beach trip of the season, took a trip out to Long Beach, LI. It was just what the doctor ordered, sun and sand. To bad the water was still freezing cold! There was barely anyone in it and most just jumped in and jumped right out. I def. was not one of the brave ones, I didn't even get my feet wet!! I think a younger me would be disappointed that I went to the beach and didn't go in the ocean. Either way I had a great time just relaxing and soaking up some sun. Tonight just eating some wings, drinking some Brooklyn Lager Summer Ale, and watching some films!

Friend Friday: Summer Vacation

Well sadly I'm not really going on vacation this summer besides a weekend down at the shore with some friends and some day trips out to the beach. Other then that I really won't be packing my bags and going very far. I already had my mini vacation down in Miami. But I can still talk about it though, right?

Friend Friday: Summer Vacation

1. When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra?

my bag from when the boy and I went to Lake George last Memorial Day Weekend

I'm an over packer so when it comes to packing I pack a whole bunch of different outfits. I like having choices. I usually take things that can go from day to night or be worn out on the beach but also on the streets. Things that are verstile are a must.

2. What are your must packs? My make up bag and the usual shampoo, conditioner, deoradant, etc.. I think this summer another must is also a maxi dress and/or skirt. They are really perfect for any situation.

3. What are you happy to leave behind?
My hair blow drier....

4. Any packing secrets that help you get everything into one suitcase?
The good thing about summer is that most clothes are light weight so there is less material to fold. The skimper the better??? Other then that, squeeze the sucker close!

5. Beach reading… what are you taking with you to read in the sand?
Hmmm I really need to find Kelly Cutrone's other book. I also want to read Tim Gunn's style book. Also some magazines. I would def love to hear what you guys are reading this summer!?!

Outfit Post: Little Ballerina

Not only did I feel like Carrie Bradshaw in opening scene of Sex and the City but I had a total moment today too.

This delivery guy on a bike legit almost ran me over. He was not even an inch away from hitting me. He decided to ride his bike right throw a crowd of people that were walking in the cross walk and I didn't even know he was a hair away from me until he went "HELLO?!" Like it was my fault! Are you kidding me?! O NYC.

Shirt: American Apparel
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Isabel Toledo for Payless
Bag: Shiraleah
Ring: Forever21

I think it's the tutu feel of this skirt that makes me feel like Carrie Bradshaw. It's very ballerina but I love playing with the look of it. Dressing it up, dressing it down you can really do whatever you want with it. I also got tons of compliments today on my look. The best was by this total stranger on the platform of the train station all dolled up in a beautiful dress she pointed at me as I walked by and went "CUTE! WAY CUTE!!" Love it. Compliments from stylish strangers are my favorite.

Thank god tomorrow is Friday! Looking forward to the weekend! I think its a beach weekend! What are you all up to?

Dress: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Charlotte Russe
Headband worn as a belt: Forever21
Hat: H&M
Earrings: Charlotte Russe
Bag: Shiraleah

This dress does NOT do well in the wind. I repeat DOES NOT do well in wind. It was super windy walking home tonight it was not fun trying to hold down the dress, walk, and talk on the phone with my mom. Thankfully it wasn't that windy while the boy and I took photos, at least not where we were standing. I do however hope it rains and breaks the humidity that we are having right now, we have tornado warnings for our area. Yes tornado warnings in Brooklyn...last summer Park Slope and Flushing, Queens was hit badly with tornado effects. I hope nothing like that happens. Just some rain would be nice.

Hows the weather where you are? I hope everyone is having a great week!

Steal the Look for Less: Fringe with Benefits

There is no way you can turn a page or a webpage with out seeing some type of fringe. Celebrities are now wearing the spring trend. Whitney Port was seen at "N.Y.C. Assouline book bash fêting Coca-Cola" (people.com) rocking a fringe dress with sequin embellishments.

The fun thing about fringe dresses is that they can be worn to special occasions or totally dressed down. Whatever the occasion you can look like a celebrity for less.

Fringe Benefits

Fringe Benefits by poetofsorts featuring multi colored sandals

Take a note from Whitney and dress up your arms with bangle bracelets. Bangles give a tribal feeling to your fringe dress. Do try printed bangles that have tribal prints or colors like the Forever21 Painted Pressed Bangles (first on the right...$6.80) or the Aldo GALLUZZI bangles (last on the right...$18). To go with the tribal them do sandals that have bead work on them. If your willing to shell out some cash do the Cauzzie Aztec Beaded Sandals (bottom right....$175). These shoes are not only perfect because of the bead work but because they have a little tassel on them that really gives the whole tribal vibe to it. These small details really stand out and make a difference. If your looking for a total steal the Qupid Cairo At Akira (the middle pair...$50) are perfect to pull the whole tribal look. You want to pick beadings that stand out like Whitney did. Don't worry, if your not a high heel girl do a flat sandal that has beading work on it.

Glam the whole look together by adding a glitter bag. Do pick a bag that matches the dress or your accessories. When doing a white dress still with a silver bag unless doing a gold jewelry. Black dress....black bag.

Have fun with this look. Don't be afraid to play with accessories and even play around with some feathered accessories, like a feathered earrings and hair clips.
