I was told by the guy that works in the Starbucks I frequent by my office that I looked like a passion fruit lemonade. I must admit I am completely okay with that. I was nicknamed Rainbow Bright by a co-worker because of all of my crazy color-blocking outfits and whenever I wear darker looks (which has been a lot more often since I'm in bracing the monochrome look) people are more surprised. I'm so happy that I scored these amazing bright pants from LOFT on super sale for $16! I love LOFT sales.

Inspirational Monday: Winter Brights

Winter Brights

Winter Brights by fashionistany featuring an envelope clutch

If you have been reading my blog, following me on instagram, or any social site that displays my looks this should really come to no surprise to you that I love colors even in the winter. Hence why I love this falls pantone colors (see the colors here): pink flambe, tangerine tango, honey gold, bright charteus, and ultramarine green. I mean I stand out like a swore thumb amidst the sea of black and grey coats; I can't help but feel happy in my brightly color looks. And what's the use of having all these beautiful colors and not color blocking them. It's finally the weather where I can wear my Ann Taylor jacket again and color block it with my favorite brights, including my DVF sample sale find.

Inspirational Monday: Yellow + Black + White

Yellow + Black + White

Last Monday I saw a post on Mae Badiyan's blog on the color combo yellow, black, and white. Of course after her post and seeing some fashionable ladies dressed in this color combo I had to give it a try. What better way to pair my new DVF yellow skirt then with a DVF like print. I had bought this H&M shirt when I first started working (so we are talking about 4 years ago). It's one of those shirts that I got a lot of wear out of it and then threw it in the back of my dresser. After seeing this color combo this was the first pairing that came to my mind.Don't know why this shirt would be the first top I thought of but it was and it worked perfectly. Not only the perfect yellow, black, and white combo but the perfect little tribute to DVF.

Spring Colorblocking: Pastels

There is nothing I love more right now then colorblocking and pastels. When I saw a few of my favorite fashion bloggers -- like La Vagabond Dame and Lust for Life --- rocking pastels on pastels I knew this was a trend for me that I have to try.

Left: La Vagabond Dame                                      Right: Lust for Life

Unlike most colorblocking I feel like the pastel colorblocking trend can work for the most faint at heart. It helps that pastels are toned down and not overwhelming...like playing with brighter tones. The basic rules of colorblocking pastels are pretty simple and fun.

Spring Colorblocing: Pastels

Begin with a light tone pastel color-- like the mint green Topshop jeans-- and a darker tone-- MTWTFSS blouse-- in the same shade or family group: blues and greens, purples and pinks. Keeping it all together help keep the look unified. To keep the look toned down introduce neutral tone accessories like the Kelsi by Kelsi Dagger wedge sandals. Kick up the look and mix in a another pastel accessory like the R&Em bag.

Last week I tried out the look and paired up my H&M blue pants with my light mint green American Apparel top that I had bought at their Warehouse Sale. I mixed in neutrals with my H&M blazer top and Jeffrey Campbell wedge sandals. I pulled in another shade of pastel by using my R&Em bag

I have a feeling there will be a lot of pastel colorblocking in my near feature. What do you think of this look? Will you give it a try?

Spring Colorblocking: Orange and Blue

Spring Colorblocking: Orange and Blue

Colorblocking is not for the faint at heart. Especially when colorblocking two bold colors and two colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Style Servings blog gave me the idea to colorblock my orange and blue when I saw her post Style Ingredients: New Ways to Wear Red. The last picture on her post gave me the boost of confidence that I could totally pull of the mix of orange and blue.

Okay so her post was on reds and not oranges but I figured red and orange are close together and that my Ann Taylor coat pretty close to a red color that I could still work this look. Like many other woman I'm not totally secure with going TOTALLY out there like the bold woman above. So to keep it looking down to earth and not totally crazy I used some of the basics like a neutral top and accessories.

Coat and Sweater: Ann Taylor
Jeans: H&M
Shoes: Nine West
Bag: c/o Remi & Emmy
Ring: H&M

I used my floral Nine West kitten heels to help tie in the colors but if you don't have floral pair of shoes a nude heel would work just perfectly. Nudes and neutrals are always key in tieing separate pieces together. They also help keep the outfit looking toned down. Since this look is bold and holds it own keep jewelry minimal. A big statement piece like my rock ring from H&M works but remember to just keep the overall look basic.

Would you try and pull this look off?
