Outfit Post: Statement Maker

Kimono: H&M | Top: Old Navy | Pants: H&M | Shoes: Urban Outfitters | Necklace: c/o UNA | Bag: Coach |
I love starting an outfit with a clean palette then building on top of the look. Not cluttering it, but just adding pieces to make a bolder statement. An all white look can look too starchy, to beak it up I added a colorful kimono, a wide-brim hat to give it that boho feel, and the UNA dagger necklace. Each of these pieces on their own are subtle but when put together they make a fashion statement.
Fashion statements don't always have to be in the look of the clothes but in the actual statement that the company is making. UNA uses recycled and organic materials to create their one of a kind pieces of jewelry. Their dagger necklace is beautiful and the materials used to make this necklace is unique and bold. The necklace was created from the recycled remnants of war in Cambodia. "Skilled artisans expertly handcraft the jewelry using metal from land mines and unexploded ordinance (UXO) gathered from local NGO's. UNA creates beauty from a marred past and supports skilled artisans transform their future." UNA's statement is a strong beautiful one that they are making within the fashion industry and the world. They also take a firm stance on the fair trade movement for ensuring living wages, safe working conditions, and gender equity. This is a company that I feel every woman and fashionista should get behind.

Introducing Jewelry Desinger Daria de Koning
I feel so lucky to live in a city full of creative people, and I love meeting people that are passionate about their work. I had the pleasure of meeting fine jewelry designer Daria de Koning at her studio space. De Koning is not only passionate about her jewelry work but her jewelry is unique and creative. Even her background is unique, she is formally trained in art and graphic design, but then went into graduate school to become a Gemologist. She not only has these trades, along the way she picked up metalsmithing which she uses to hand create all her jewelry pieces. Since her jewelry is hand crafted, her pieces can be customized.
I truly fell in love with all of her jewelry. As a bride-to-be I gravitated to her pearl earrings, which really are the perfect wedding day earrings. Along with the wedding/engagement ring bands. I have gotten into a habit of stalking out wedding bands and I loved the simplicity and daintiness of de Koning's bands.
All of de Koning's jewelry are statement makers. It's amazing to think that de Koning has hand designed and made the pieces herself- especially as someone who always wished she could whip of a piece of fashion. In high school my best friend and I tried to make charm bracelets. Well, I was constantly in the beading stores in the Fashion District because I lost at least a charm a week. Needless to say I am not a jewelry maker...and I can barely sow. I'm totally impressed with de Koning unique creativity. She thinks outside the box, which a lot of woman now and days are looking to stand out amongst the rest.
De Koning's pieces speak for themselves. I look forward to working with de Koning on future projects. You all will have to wait and see with that. And I look forward to seeing what other unique designs she will come up with next.

Kensie 2013 Jewelry Sneak Peak
Last week I was invited to preview Kensie's 2013 Jewelry Collection. I knew it was going to be a fun event with beautiful jewelry especially since I knew a lot of fellow blogger pals (TBC what up!) were going to also be attending. There really is nothing like closing out a week with friends, jewelry, sweets, and prosseco. The jewelry of course was nothing short of eye catching. There were a couple of pieces that I was ready to run out of the showroom with like the white lace designed earrings and the scripted bangles. Both were so pretty and elegant, either one can be worked into everyday wear or something more formal. I was even thinking how pretty the white laced earrings would be paired with a white lace dress (wedding brain!).

Fashionista NY Girl's Co-Hosting Event with BomBom Jewelry
Thursday night I had my part-ay skirt on for my very first co-hosting event! The lovely jewelry company, Bombom Jewelry, invited me to co-host an event with them in their New York Pop-Up Shop. This was an opportunity I was over the moon about. Not only was it my first time being asked to do a co-hosting event, but it was with an amazing start-up company. Valeria started Bombom Jewelry with her mother Maria, both woman love jewelry and had always wanted to go into the jewelry business. Before Bombom was created Valeria worked in the financial business, where her love for office appropriate statement jewelry started. While Valeria loves the subtle statement makers, her mother on the other hand loves bold modern designs. Both ladies work together to come up with their own designs for the company. Even though they might have two different taste they make the line look cohesive.
Here is the thing that I love about this line. While their pieces are modern, fresh, and super wearable, they don't break the bank-- which is something I truly stand by. It's hard to find companies that make quality pieces but still make them affordable. A lot of the Bombom pieces run from $50 to $200. Some might say that the over $100 pieces might be pricey, but think about all the crappy costume jewelry that you buy that doesn't last. If your looking for a piece that you will always wear and that you want to last this is more then the right price. Not only do they make sure their pieces are beautiful, but they also make sure you are getting the right quality. Their jewelry is made of only the finest stones and metals. I mean really, how can you beat this?
I had the pleasure before the event going to the pop-up shop a couple of days before hand and talking with Valeria. It's hard sometimes to find genuine sweet people that have such raw talent. What I thought would be an hour meeting ended up being much longer then expected. I mean we chatted for hours about EVERYTHING. This made me even more excited about the event and working with her and the company. Thursday night came and we had a small gathering of people. I'm really blessed to have people in my life that stand behind me and that are willing to support me. It's great to have these people in your life. Sometimes, especially as a blogger, you feel discouraged but then amazing opportunities come to reassure you that you are meant to be doing what you are doing. That you are doing something right. The night was full of beautiful jewelry (that I got to play with all night), friends, chocolate, and champagne.
Necklace: c/o Bombom Jewelry (find here)
Ring and bracelets: borrowed from Bombom Jewelry (find here, here, and here)
While at the event I had a table set up of my finds under $100 (which you can see above). Some pieces like the necklaces are pieces that you can only find at the Pop-Up shop. But below you can see more information on some of the pieces that I had picked out for the event, which are perfect gifts for the Holiday season!

Kensie Jewelry Spring 2013
Kensie is a line that I've been a fan of myself for a while now. The clothing is within a Fashionista NY Girl's budget but packs some amazing punches. The clothing is youthful, vibrant, and fun much like what their jewelry line is. There is a little bit of something for every fashionista. For a classic girl there are timeless pieces like jeweled necklaces and earrings. There are bigger bolder pieces for the girl looking to make an impact. Then there are pieces that are bright and colorful for the chica that loves to paint her self in color.
I love that this lines has a bit of everything and it's all eye catching. What really makes it even better is that it's affordable and will be reachable to buy. You'll be able to find these pieces at Macy's and Lord and Taylors.

DIY: Chain Link Necklace

This is the easiest DIY ever -- even the DIY challenged can pull this one off. The hardest part is probably trying the find the chain link necklace. I always go to Etsy to get my little DIY crafts. I got both my chain links from the Etsy store CrushCrush. That's all you need-- 2 chain links!
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on opposite ends.
4. TA-DA! You have a chain link necklace!
I got this idea after seeing Liz of Late Afternoon post photos of her wearing Adibur Kibur's Silver and Neon Chain Link Necklace (which is now sold out on Shopbop).

Jonelle Maira Jewelry

If you are looking for creative and beautiful jewelry from an up and coming designer then don't look much further. Jonelle Maira is a jewelry designer from Rochester, NY who first started selling her jewelry under Poison Apple back in 2003. She has now relaunched her 19070s inspired with a Southwest Navajo twist jewelry line under her name Jonelle Maria.
1. Where are you from? I'm from Rochester, NY. A city way upstate an hour and a half away from Toronto, Canada. Although, I Spent the better part of the last decade living in NYC and plan to move back there.
2. How did you get started in making your own jewelry? And how long have you been designing jewelry for? I started making jewelry in the fall of 2003 under the name Poison Apple. I had always been good at creating things with my hands and had an interest in jewelry making early on as a kid and it just grew from there. One day I realized that I should start selling the pieces that I was creating and so I made a website and took the first steps towards achieving my dream. I just recently made the decision to change the name of the company to my own name and re-launched the website with this new name http://www.jonellemaira.com/3. When did you start selling your own pieces? September 2003
4. Where do you find most of your inspiration? Each time I create a collection I take into consideration what the current trends are and I work with the silhouettes of what's currently trendy and then I incorporate whatever is currently inspiring me in terms of materials, colors, patterns etc. My latest pieces have been inspired by the southwest, the 70's, navajo and aztec prints and geometry. Inspiration can come from anywhere though, a magazine, a blog, a great jewelry part that i've sourced, a dream, a thought....etc.
5. What accessory designers do you admire and love? lizzie fortunado, Dannijo, Tom binns, Made her Think, Anna Sheffield
Each of her pieces is more creative and beautiful then the next. She also has a few Web Exclusives (which means once their gone their gone) so make sure to check out her Web Exclusive page to see what limited edition pieces of jewelry she has. I mean come on everyone wants a one of a kind piece of jewelry!
