I love starting an outfit with a clean palette then building on top of the look. Not cluttering it, but just adding pieces to make a bolder statement. An all white look can look too starchy, to beak it up I added a colorful kimono, a wide-brim hat to give it that boho feel, and the UNA dagger necklace. Each of these pieces on their own are subtle but when put together they make a fashion statement.
Fashion statements don't always have to be in the look of the clothes but in the actual statement that the company is making. UNA uses recycled and organic materials to create their one of a kind pieces of jewelry. Their dagger necklace is beautiful and the materials used to make this necklace is unique and bold. The necklace was created from the recycled remnants of war in Cambodia. "Skilled artisans expertly handcraft the jewelry using metal from land mines and unexploded ordinance (UXO) gathered from local NGO's. UNA creates beauty from a marred past and supports skilled artisans transform their future." UNA's statement is a strong beautiful one that they are making within the fashion industry and the world. They also take a firm stance on the fair trade movement for ensuring living wages, safe working conditions, and gender equity. This is a company that I feel every woman and fashionista should get behind.

Inspirational Monday: Layered Necklaces

When it comes to my everyday outfits, I'm pretty basic. I'm a t-shirt and jeans type of girl at heart, even though my job (sometimes) calls for me to get a little more dressed up then that. Layered necklaces are my favorite trick to dress up a pretty basic look. Adds a statement and a bit of personality.
What do you think of the layered necklace look?

DIY: Neon Necklace
Vintage necklace / Adia Kibur long necklace / Dannijo bib necklace / Dannijo long necklace / Neon necklace
Lately I've been in the DIY mood. Maybe it's the heat that makes me want to stay indoors and get all crafty. Either way I'm loving this kick that I'm in. After seeing a bunch of bloggers (aka Going West, Sorelle in Style) doing the DIY neon chain necklace I decided to give it a whirl myself since I have been lusting over some pretty expensive ones.
This is another simple little DIY project. All you need is a cheap crystal necklace and some neon nail polish!
What I used:
-Claire's Necklace
-Claire's Neon Nailpolish (scored them on sale buy 1 get one 50% off)
Steps:
Start with one coat of nail polish paint on the crystals going all the way around the necklace.
Add extra coats a paint to really make the color pop.
Wait for it to dry! BAM your own Neon Necklace.
What I love about this necklace is that it adds a nice pop of color to a simple look. It really makes a statement all on its own without being over bearing.
What do you think about this DIY? Would you give it a try?

DIY: Chain Link Necklace

This is the easiest DIY ever -- even the DIY challenged can pull this one off. The hardest part is probably trying the find the chain link necklace. I always go to Etsy to get my little DIY crafts. I got both my chain links from the Etsy store CrushCrush. That's all you need-- 2 chain links!
Steps:
1. Take the ends of your chains and have both of the open pieces out.
2. Slip the open slots into each other. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on opposite ends.
4. TA-DA! You have a chain link necklace!
I got this idea after seeing Liz of Late Afternoon post photos of her wearing Adibur Kibur's Silver and Neon Chain Link Necklace (which is now sold out on Shopbop).
