Abreu Rios Fall 2011

The likelyhood of you knowing the design duo Iris Abreu and Irene Rios from their label Abreu Rios is probably slim to none. This is where I step in and get to introduce you to them and their work. Thanks to the Nolcha Fashion Week event at the Empire Hotel I got the chance to view some of the fall collection and to meet the lovely designers.

A little bit of history behind the two: Iris and Irene are two New York based designers who run and own their luxury brand Abreu Rios. They created their namesake by taken their mother's madien names and putting them together: Abreu + Rios = Abreu Rios. According to Irene their mother's were there first fashion icons.

Now to their clothing! Their clothing is feminine and sophiscated but also has an edgeness to it. For their Fall 2011 collection they took inspiration from Old Hollywood, "we looked to the greats like Lana Turner, Elizabeth Taylor and Veronica Lake. Women who oozed glamour and were over-the-top fabulous" according to Irene. Their collection is just that, timeless, glamoured, and sophisticated. They used different materials to create a tweed like pattern that is reminisnce of Chanel (and we all know how timeless Chanel is). They also used jewel embellishments to establish glamour. The dresses have classic feminine cuts but the shoulder details give it a whole new feeling.

Their pieces are perfect for day to night looks from office to after hour cocktails. Elegant designs that flatter a woman's body. Also you can mix and match their clothing with other pieces you already have in your closet. Their pieces like the black button down shirt with shoulder detail can be dressed up with a skirt or dressed down with a pair of skinny jeans. Abreu Rios line is something that can become a stable in your wardrobe. Another great thing about this collection is that their pieces are timeless that you can wear them a year or 5 years or even 20 years from now and you still will look stylish. That's what I look for in clothing, pieces that will become stables for a long time in my closet.

My favorite pieces from this collection is the embellished blazer paired with the embellished maxi skirt also the black button down top with the shoulder details and the wine colored silk charmeuse pants with black glass buttons. What are the designers favorite looks? According to Irene "Iris' favorite piece are the wine colored silk charmeuse pants with black glass buttons. Mine is the dark grey silk chiffon blouse with shoulder draping and Swarovski crystal buttons." How about you what are your favorite looks from this collection?
